Chapter Two

"How did it go, girls?" Mom asked the second we got home.

"Really well. She was so happy to see us." I said happily.

"Oh, I knew she would love you two, beautiful girls." She gleamed. Stevie threw here purse on the table and headed towards her room.

"Stephanie Rene Mitchell. Watch the aditude young lady." Mom snapped. Stevie turned around with her hands on her hips. I knew she was upset I was going to the concert with Katy tomorrow night, but it was her own fault for being a grump. She didn't wanna go anyways  

"That isn't fair, Lorri gets to go off with some girl she met at the nursing home to a rock concert tomorrow night. You let her get away with that. I want to make friends and I can't go anywhere because I'm a little kid." Stevie complained.

Before mom had a chance to say anything Kaitlynne marched off to her room. I wished she didn't say anything about the concert. I knew mom wouldn't have an issue with it. But, I wanted to tell her.

"You can go to the concert, Lorri." Mom said while she went back to her cross stich.

"Thanks mom. Its twenty minutes away. Want me to call you from a phone both when we arrive?" I asked.

"No, I trust you. Are you going with that office girl Katrina?" She wondered.

"Yes." Was she not impressed by her? I pondered.

"She was a sweetheart. I'm sure you girls will enjoy yourselves." She told me with smiling eyes.

I said goodnight to mother and headed off to my bedroom to read. Reading was my nightly ritual. I couldn't go to sleep without reading a chapter or two of a book. After I read a few chapters of The Great Gatsby. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.

When I awoke my alarm read 7:30. I decided to get up. Once I was awake, I was awake. There was no trying to get back to sleep for me. I walked over to my calendar and marked the day off. "June, 28th, 1991. Where has time gone?" I asked myself. My birthday was a month from today. I would be nineteen. It seemed like yesterday when I turned sixteen. Time was going by way to fast. I stood in front of my closet thinking of what to do for the day until seven. I did need a job. I would go job hunting. I'm sure there was a department store or grocery store within bike riding distance. I picked out a skirt and matching t-shirt to where for the day. It would look great for job hunting and also for the concert. I smiled at myself in the mirror. I was ready for today to be a great day.

After not much looking I found a job. It was a thrift store about six blocks from my house. I had an interview on the spot. They said they needed help and wanted me to start Monday. I was pleased.

The day flew by. I went home told mom about my job. I did some reading, and took a nap. I was a little nervous about tonight, but I was also excited. Social interactions were not really my thing. But, I needed to make some friends. I hoped there were not many people there. Being in a crowded room always made me uneasy.

Inside the bar there were a handful of people sitting on tables. I breathed a small sigh of relief.

"You're going to love The Rain." Katy exclaimed. There was excitement in her eyes I could tell that she lived for this kind of thing.

"So, what part does your friend play?" I asked.

"Drums. There are four guys in the band. They are really cool guys. I will introduce you to them after they play." I gulped. Meeting a group of people always made me nervous. I was ok when it was one on one, but meeting more than two or three people always made me feel strange for some odd reason.

"You know Liam is about your age, he is actually about two month younger than you." Katty commented.

"Liam is the lead singer, he also writes all the music. He is a really cool bloke. He is a little cocky and arrogant, but he is really fun and a sweetheart. Trust me I'm not trying to set you up. He isn't what I would call boyfriend material."
