"Oh? Who's this?" A few hours later, Mom walked in. She was rubbing her hands with a cloth, indicating that she had been cooking.
"Hi, I'm Bellona," she greeted with a smile.
"Ah, I see. Nice to meet you," my mom responded. Her head turned towards me, expecting an answer or an explanation.
"Um-" I searched for an excuse. I couldn't have said she just walked here on Christmans Eve. Mom would freak the flip out. "Bellona's parents dropped her off here. They had work today, but didn't want to leave her alone. I told you I'd be watching her a few days ago," I lied.
"Is that so?" Mom questioned. "I guess it slipped my mind. I don't remember you telling me. And it's a shame your parents had to work today."
"Yeah, but they're off tomorrow," she reinsured. Mom nodded, smiling.
"That's good. Say, would you two like to help me we things up for the Christmas Eve dinner?" She questioned.
"Okay!" Bellona chimed. She stood up, and I turned off the television.
"Good, good," Mom replied. She's paused. "Uh..."
"Everything okay, Mom?" I asked.
"Yes, but-" she wiped her forehead-"I want the Sakamakis to join us tonight." I dropped the remote.
"What?" My mouth dropped. "You want to, what? Why?!"
She gave me a sympathic look. "Hun, the Sakamakis are living with us. We have been trying to ignore them because of their-um- behavior, but it's the holiday. We could at least give them a little attention. I made you get them presents for Christmas for a reason-"
"Uuuuuuugh," I groaned and Bellona laughed. "Don't remind me!" It took me forever to find them a Christmas gift. I knew what thy liked, but I also knew that their standards were high. They've lived in a mansion with servants. They had whatever they wanted along with their sacrificial brides. Not wanting to get them my blood in a bag, I got them the second best thing(s).
"Well, if you want to get them to eat with us, how do you expect them to know? Are you going to tell them?" I asked. Mom opened her mouth, but then she closed it again.
"I was actually"-don't say it-" hoping that-"don't say it-"you would tell them for me."
Annnnd she said it.
"Mom, I don't think I can-"
"Honey, you seem to be the only know who can talk normally to them. It seems like you know them. It's like, you knew them before they even came. That's why I had you buy them their gifts," she explained.
I didn't say anything at first. "Yeah, okay, I see."
"I'll help!" Our eyes darted at Bellona. She smiled, a bit too happy to volunteer.
"Um, I don't think that's a good idea," I admitted. She pouted in response, crossing her arms.
"Well-"
"I'm going to tell Su-su!" She said running out the door. I yelled her name as Mom muttered in a questioned manner, "Su-su."
She was already lost withing the maze of hallways. I yelled for her, but there was no response. I wondered the halls, still unaware of where I'm going. To think, staying in this damned manor for so long, I would at least get a clue to where I was going.
I guess not.
Sighing, I dragged my feet against the carpet floor. I surprisingly found myself at Subaru's door.
How could I tell?
I could hear Bellona's voice from the other side.
I took a deep breath before slamming the door open. As expected, Subaru had locked himself in his coffin. Bellona was pounding it, calling him out over and over again. She saw me and pointed at the coffin.
