"What did Alison say?" Ezra asked, he was fetching a glass of water so I could have the next batch of painkillers. I tried to hide the pain I was in from him, scared that I would have to stop my goodbyes but he just asked what I wanted. He wanted to know what I needed next and I told him. There was no argument and in some sense I am becoming scared because Ezra doesn't seem like he's in this world anymore, he is completely oblivious to what is going to happen next. Maybe he is already grieving, maybe he already thinks I'm gone.
Hanna is at the door, I know because I can tell her shoes coming down the corridor.
The door is open now and she walks in with an arm full of magazines.
"Okay so you have to help me pick which outfit to wear, I have a date with Caleb tonight and I have no clue."
She begins flicking through the magazines and I am happy she is acting like this, it is not awkward nor sickly sweet. This is the truth, this is us. I feel like she is the only one who has truly helped me by coming her and acting like this. It means no goodbyes but only silent ones.
"I like that outfit, it would suit you." I point to the model closest to me and Hanna immediately shuts the magazine and throws it on the table.
"I hope you're joking Aria, who do you take me for?" She grins, her smile becoming infectious. If her smile were medicine she would be able to cure everybody she would come into contact with, maybe she would be able to cure me.
We carry on looking until Hanna points out an outfit she likes and how great it would look, it looks similar.
"I have that top, just have it. You're right it would look better on you." I stand with the help of the arm of the couch and I begin to head for my wardrobe.
"Aria I don't think-"
I look over to Ezra, nearly pleading. "I can do this." He wants to keep onto every part of me I understand but then I need to do this. I need the normality, I crave it because it's the only time I feel human.
"Here you go." I walk back, stumbling slightly as I take my seat and pass it over, the colour matched perfectly with Hanna's eyes.
"Thanks, I better go and get ready." She gives me a quick hug and walks over to Ezra stopping.
"Look after her- please."
"Goodbye Hanna."
"Goodbye Aria."
