Chapter 2

Aubri

After the long trip my mother and I finally made it to our new LA house. My room is huge; king sized bed with Victoria Secret pink bedding and and 60” HD flat screen. “Mom this walk in closet though!” I shouted from the inside. “You’re welcome!” she shouted back from her room. I could barely hear her because I made sure our rooms were far away. My phone played ‘Know Why’ and I knew it was nobody but my cousin/best friend Lane. She set that as my ringtone for her the last time she came down to visit.

“Hey.” 

“Hey ugly!’ she said through the phone.

“I’m here noowwww.”

“I know, mama told me.”

“Can you come over?”

“Can’t, maybe you should come with me.”

“I would but I have stuff to do”

“Well maybe next time, bye Lane.”

“Bye loser,” she hung up.

I was actually really bummed out from that since Lane was always fun. Seriously she knows everybody, it’s that model connection. I bet the next time I see her she’ll be with someone famous. My mom and I finished unloading all of our stuff and by the time we were done the sun, was starting to set. “Mom I’m going to get some food!” I shouted up the stairs. I grabbed my phone, my house key and headed out. I swear LA taxi drivers are the worst, he couldn’t drive to save his life and wouldn’t give me my change back. I walked into the cafe and made my order

When it was ready, I reached for my cup and ended up hitting a guy in the face with my elbow. “Ow.” “Hey sorry I’m clumsy,” I muttered picking his phone up off the ground. “Hey you’re-” “Yeah Moises Arias, Rico from Hannah Montana, Kings Of Summer, I know,” he said cutting me off. “Aubri Lockridge, you can call me Bri if you want,” I chirped sticking my hand out. “Cool, cool.” We talk for a while, then he asks, “You’re really nice. Where are you from? I can tell you’re not from around here..” “Virginia, the capital of irrelevance,” I rolled my eyes and he chuckled. “That’s far. Funny, I have a friend outside from around that way, c’mon.” he said leading me to the door. I follow him outside into the blazing LA sun. It’s a good thing I wore a bandeau top. We go around the back to a black Range Rover with booming music. He opened the backdoor revealing, wait.

“Lane?” I asked kinda shocked.

“Bri!” she said hopping out of the car and coming over for a hug. We squealed and threw each other compliments for a minute until Moises spoke up. “I see you two know each other.” “Yeah, Moi this is my cousin Aubri, Aubri, Moises and Mateo. Moises and Mateo, Aubri.’ she said motioning to the dude sitting in the backseat. That’s the dude from Kickin It. Wow.. After Lane got back in her seat,  he put his arm around her shoulder and she locked fingers with his free hand. They must be dating. Aww.

“Nice to finally meet the infamous Aubri,” Moises said greeting me in a more friendlier tone. 

“You coming or not?” she asked while I just stood there.

“Uh I dunno-”

“Shut up and get in.”she said slamming the door in my face, leaving me to sit in the front with Moises.

I send a text to my mom letting her know I ran into Lane and that I was gonna be home later. As Moises pulls out of the parking lot, I turn around to face Lane. ” Where are we going?” I hiss at her. “Dora, chill out cause I’m not the map,” she says rolling her eyes. Moises laughed at the lame ass joke she cracked. “Wait Wahh?” Mateo asked confused. “Teo, you’re lucky you’re cute,” She laughed.

  Moises plugs his iPhone into the auxiliary and it plays Kid Cudi’s album Indicud. Just What I Am started and I knew all of the lyrics. “Hey you listen to him?” He asked. “Yeah I love this album. Brothers is one of my favorite songs,” My phone vibrates and I look at the screen. Daric. I don’t like talking to my boyfriend in a car full of people, so I let it ring. ” Who’s this? ” Lane asks, reaching for my phone. ” None of your business!” I say, smacking her hand away. “But why aren’t you answering?” She grabs it and says ” Daric? Why is there a heart by his name? Bri. Don’t tell me …” She said hitting me with the ‘are you kidding’ face. ”Ooh who’s Daric?” Moises says glancing at me. I looked at them.” Daric is my…boyfriend. We’re trying the long distance thing. I dunno if it’s gonna work but—” ”Not for long! I got this.” Mateo says taking the phone from Lane and sliding the answer button. ” WAIT NO! ” I scream reaching towards the backseat, almost breaking my spine.

" I’m kidding, I’m kidding." He laughs, handing the phone back to me. " Y’all are so childish!" I whine. " But seriously Bri, you’re here and he’s all the way down there. You need to drop him. It would be different if y’all actually had the ability to visit each other  but you’re in Cali now. That’s like, thousands of miles away. Besides, have you seen the boys? You don’t want to cheat on him, do you?” Lane says. She’s right.  I sigh and thought about it. We pull into a reserved parking spot. “Alright we’re here.” Mateo says to someone on the phone. I get out the car with them and it looks like we’re at some studio.
