Looks were exchanged around the table. Everyone gaped at me with wide eyes, and full- rather stuffed- mouths.
"Do you think we should tell her?" Justin whispered like I wasn't there.
"Dude, don't talk about me like I'm not here..." I grumbled, crossing my arms like a child.
"Sorry," He apologized.
"Yes, we should tell her. It's her mom too, and she deserves to know, and has the right to, too," Riley spoke up, standing up for me. I gave him a thankful smiled.
"Alright," Justin sighed.
"Uh guys?! What' the problem? Tell me!" I said, impatient.
"Fine! Fine! Hold your horses girl!" Brent smiled.
"Mom was a werewolf like us. She was dad's mate. Mom and dad went for a run one night, leaving me here in charge of you guys. There had been multiple reports of rougue attaks in the area. Dad thought nothing of it, for the reason that we were the strongest pack in the area. But he was careless. They got attaked. Dad came home alone. Her body was almost unidentifiable. Dad couldn't carry all the... pieces. But he knew he had to come home and look after us," Brent's voice broke at the end.
By now, I had tears flowing freely down my face.
"Hailey, It's ok now, Mom's here. She's with us. Right here," He smiled sadly, and pointed to his heart.
I fet sick to my stomach. Pushing away from the table, I stood up, and ran to the bathroom down the hall. I heard chairs being pushed away from the table as well, and worried voices calling my name.
"Guys, just let me talk to her," My twin begged. I then heard only one set of footsteps advancing.
"Hailey, open the door," Riley sighed.
I vomited.
I don't know what has gotten to me. Maybe the horrible mental image of my mom, bloody, ripped to pieces. Dead. So unbearably dead.
I sobbed even louder, it was way beyond my control now.
I slid down the wall next to the toilet.
"Come in," My weak voice said unwillingly.
The door flew open, then flew back into it's frame again.
"Are you alright?" He asked, concern clouding his voice.
Of course I'm not alright! How the hell could I be alright?
But, I didn't say that. Instead I said, "Yeah. I'm fine."
"Now, you know why we kept that from you. We all hate seeing you upset. Getting yourself so worked up, to the point of physical sickness," He lectured.
"Mom wouldn't want you to be like this. She loves us all way to much. You'll hurt her- and all of us- If you're upset, and hurt," He continued.
"Come here." He slid down the wall next to me, and wrapped his arms around me. I rested my head on his chest, and wandered how I would live without brothers like this. I wouldn't. Couldn't.
"Thank you."
"For what?" He asked.
"For being here for me. That story made it hard to keep my cool," I admitted.
"How about we just forget about it? Go get ready to swim?" He suggested.
"Sounds good to me. I think I need to brush my teeth," I made a face at the taste in my mouth.
