Quick Disclaimer: I wrote most of this book before coming out as non-binary! I may use my birthname and female pronouns, but those do not currently honor me. Hi! My name is Lane, and I use they/them pronouns. Hope you enjoy!
Okay, now we're definitely getting into some tougher ones to understand. When you see the prefix "lith" before someone's orientation, it means that the person experiences attraction, but does not want it acted on or reciprocated.
This can also be explained as only liking the idea of a sexual or romantic relationship in theory. It's like you were skydiving. You might like the idea of the thrill, the exhilaration of the fall, but when you actually think about you doing that and and plummeting 10,000 feet down to the ground, it doesn't sound so fun anymore.
A lot of people who don't know about the ace and aro spectrum might have a hard time wrapping their head around it, but that's to be expected. They'll probably ask things like, "Wait, isn't that just the same thing as celibacy/not wanting a relationship right now?" No. Both of those things are a choice, but your sexual and romantic orientations are not. It is something your brain immediately does, it's not a switch that can be turned on and off. I'd recommend using an analogy, like the one listed above, or whatever one your little heart desires.
I also want to take this opportunity to recognize a pretty awesome lithromantic that honestly deserves a bit more spotlight than she's getting, and that is the YouTuber Like Totally Eden. If you don't know who that is, she wrote the songs 2009, 2022, and 2012 Phan songs. If you like Phan, and good music in general, go check her out, and even if you don't, go check her out! Her videos are really awesome, and I love her a lot so please give her a look!
