Okay, so a/b/o stands for alpha, beta, omega. They can all be either male or female. Each status will present in their mid teens by either having a rut (alpha), heat (omega), or your scent will change (beta. idk how they actually present though) Each status will also have a certain smell, which allows people to figure out what you are or how you're feeling. Each status will mark their mate by biting them somewhere on their body (most commonly on the neck)
Alphas: Alphas are the more dominate status. They have ruts for mating purposes, which usually sync up with their omega mate's heat. Male alphas can get people pregnant and female alphas can become pregnant. (In some stories, females can also get others pregnant) It is typically frowned upon if two alphas were to mate each other.
When alphas mate, or have sex really, they produce a knot. This locks together the alpha and whoever their sleeping with. The knot usually lasts an hour and can become painful for the other person when pulled on.
Betas: Betas are pretty much like normal people. They don't have heat or a rut. Male betas can get others pregnant and female can become pregnant. Being beta is basically a freebie. You can make who ever (while beta/beta pairs are more common) with no problem.
Omegas: Omegas are the more submissive status. (In some cases, omegas are treated as if they are just for breeding purposes. Barefoot and pregnant. Think 1950's housewives) They have heats regularly (like periods or it can be every 3-6 months) to prepare for mating. They produce slick when aroused. When they feel threatened by another alpha or feel they have upset them, the bare their neck in submission. Omegas can become pregnant (both male and female, while stories sometimes make male omegas rare) but I'm not sure if they can get anyone pregnant. In some stories, omegas can wear female clothing since they would be the more motherly status.
While in heat, omegas become insatiable. Thats why most omegas are mated with alphas. A knot will help the heat calm, while betas and other omegas cant offer that. A heat is pretty much a serious fever where the omega has the urge to mate and breed. While pregnant, heats stop until the pup is born. (so periods basically)
