Newt stayed by Albys room all night. I gave in and left him alone, knowing not to push anything. Albys screams of pain could be heard throughout the entire Glade. I ate dinner with Gally and joined Chuck and Thomas by the hammocks. Newt soon sat with us, looking sad and worried. He drapped his arm around my waist.

"I think the worst part's over," He said. "Should be sleepin' for a couple of days, then wake up okay. Maybe a little screaming now and then."
"Newt, what's he going through up there? Seriously, I don't get what this Changing thing is." Thomas asked.
"You think we do?" Newt spat. "All we bloody know is if the Grievers sting you, you inject the Grief Serum or you die. If you do get the Serum, then your body wigs out and shakes and your skin bubbles and turns a freaky green colour and you vomit all over yourself. Enough explanation for ya there, Tommy?" I stiffled a laugh and Newt looked over at me.
"I'm sorry, not a laughing manner." I clear my throat and wait for Thomas to continue.
"Anyway, I know it sucks to see your friend go through that, but I just want to know what's really happening up there. Why do you call it the Changing?"
"It-"
"It brings back memories," I interrupt, squeezing Newts hand to help him relax. "Just little snippets, but definite memories of before we came to this horrible place. Anyone who goes through it acts like a bloody psycho when it's over. Anyway, it's like having your old life back, only to have it snatched away again." The boys stared at me.

"What? I listen, Slintheads." I looked away and let them continue their conversation, blocking it out. That is until they talk about being different once you're stung.
"Gally's the worst of 'em all." Chuck chimed in.
"Gally was stung? When? Why didn't you say anything to me?" Thomas changes the topic to the girl, clearly not wanting to talk about my brother. I got up and left, going to my room for sleep.

The next morning, a Gathering was held to talk about Thomas and the effect he's had on the Glade. I waited with Chuck in my room, neither of us feeling like working.
"What do you think they're talking about?" Chuck asked nervously.
"Thomas." I answered in short. "And the girl."
"I'm surprised you aren't in there. After all, you were the first girl here ever."
"Yeah, but I did my time."
"You were also the first to spend a night in the Maze."
"True, but I was unconscious, remember?" Chuck sighed and looked to the floor.
"Thanks Chucky." I say ruffling his hair.
"What for?"
"For believing in me." He smiles up at me and I lay back on my bed.
"I'm gonna take a nap, wake me if anything interesting happens." Chuck nods and moves to a chair to give me some space.
