My eyes flutter open and focus on the world around me. I'm not in my room. Well not my room in the Glade. The floor is wood, but the walls are brick. Books, boxes and clothes are scattered around all over the place. There's an old wooden desk, some shelves and I'm laying on an old tattered bed. The room itself is dark, worn curtains blocking out the sun. Where am I?
I hear a door open and close, then someone walking up stairs.
"(Y/N)?" I hear a familiar voice call.
"I'm in here!" I shout. I hear footsteps slowly getting closer and Newt appears in the doorway. "Hey." I greet with a smile as he sits on the edge of the bed.
"Hi." He smiles, intertwining our fingers. "Listen, there's something I've been meaning to tell you..." He looks at the floor then at our hands. A wave of negative feelings hits me like a Berg... wait, what's a Berg?
"W-what's wrong?" My voice breaking a little.
"I've got to go away." He simply says, avoiding eye contact.
"Away? Away where? For how long?" My breathing quickens and I shoot up into a sitting position. He stays silent. "Answer me!" I half yell, not wanting to get the attention of any passing Cranks. What are Cranks? Where are these words coming from?"Wicked. They want me for their experiment, to help find the cure. I shouldn't be gone long." He says, clearly choking back tears. Meanwhile, I let mine fall free.
"No, you can't. What about your sister? What about me? We have to look out for each other!" (For those who don't know, James Dashner confirmed that Newt had a sister, and a dog. Okay continue)He finally makes eye contact with me, though I wish he hadn't. The sorrowful look in his dark eyes makes me want to break down.
"I'm sorry." He says letting go of my hand. "I'm so sorry." He gets up and starts leaving, stopping in the doorway but not turning to look at me. "Take good care of her...and both of you, stay safe." This time he continues walking and I hear his footsteps getting quieter as he makes his way downstairs."Newt!" I scream, not caring who hears. "Newt, please!" I try to get up and run after him, but pain shoots up my leg and I fall to the floor, remembering that I sprained my ankle. I hear the front door close and I know that he is gone for good. I know that I will never see him smile. Hear him laugh. Feel his touch. Never again. There's nothing I can do to get him back.
I sit on the floor and cry. Cry for the whole shucking world to hear.
"(Y/N)?" His sisters voice echos from down the hall. She comes to my side and holds me "(Y/N), we'll see him again. Don't worry. He'd never abandon us, never." I wrap my arms around her neck and we cry together.
Chuck slowly shook me awake.
"(Y/N)? (Y/N) are you okay?" His voice laced with worry.
"Yeah, Chucky, I'm fine." I say, my voice coming out a little raspy as I try to slow my breathing. Was that just another dream? Or was it a memory? "Uh...anything happen?" I ask, deciding to keep it to myself.
"Albys been acting crazy and stuff. Thomas has gone to talk to him." He said. I shot up.
"Where are they?"
"With the Medjacks?"
"Oh, right." I walk with him towards the Homestead, trying to think of why Alby would want Thomas and also wondering if I should tell someone about my dream... or memory.*Edited*
