We entered the Medjacks room, only to be told that the girl had ran away. There one second gone the next.
"What now?" I look up at Newt, and without even glancing towards me he speaks with a serious tone.
"Find her." We turned and ran back downstairs and out of the Homestead. Some boys in the crowd followed us, intrigued, but most stayed behind still yelling at the girl who wasn't even there. We ran to the kitchen, slaughter house and slammer, but she wasn't there. I looked over at the deadheads and pulled on Newts arm. He looked at me then followed my gaze. We all ran for the deadheads.

Sure enough, the girl was there and talking to Thomas.
"How'd you get here? Medjacks said you were there then buggin gone." The girl stood up.
"Guess he forgot to tell you the part about me kicking him in the groin and climbing out the window." I laugh and turn to Jeff.
"Congrats, Jeff," Newt also turned to him. "You're officially the first guy here to get your butt beat by a girl."
"Keep talking like that and you'll be next." WTF did she just say?
"Hey," I stepped forward, causing the girl to be taken aback, as if she wasn't expecting to see another girl here. "First of all, I'd like to see you try," I death stare her. "You all need to chill, we're not going to fight each other, and second of all," I turn back to the boys, "Minho was actually the first cause I gave him a black eye the other day." They rolled there eyes at me.
"I'm sick of this." Alby steps ups. I'm hurt by the harshness of his words and walk out of the Deadheads. I start walking back to my room, I could still hear Alby yelling. I turned around, considering going back, when I noticed the doors were still open. It must be earlier than I thought. I looked to my watch, the walls should've closed 10 minutes ago. I turn back to the Deadheads, the girl seems to be getting taken to the Slammer. A few minutes later, the others emerge from the Deadheads. I go to Newt to tell him about the doors, but he already seemed to know. When I said I was hoping for things to change at sunset this is not what I meant.

Newt and Alby gathered all the Keepers and put them in charge of assignments and getting their groups in the Homestead within the hour. I stayed by Newts side, though he seemed angry. I could tell he was actually stressed, worried and scared. I stayed with him, not letting go of his hand and he did the same.
"Thank you." He says to me once he finishes telling the last Keeper what to do. I smile up at him, a warm, reassuring smile. He smiles back. We continue walking around the Glade, giving everyone jobs to do and watching over them.

After a while I heard Thomas calling out for Newt. We stop and he joins us. Newt speaks to him coldly, not wanting to show Thomas just how scared he was. I squeezed his hand and let them talk. I didn't listen until Thomas brought up what I said in the Maze.
"(Y/N) said something the other day when we were in the Maze, just before she passed out. And I believe her." Newt looks to me, wanting me to continue for him. I freeze before I say anything, remembering what the voice said if I spoke out of line again, someone would get hurt. I look to Thomas, pleading for him to continue instead. "She said the Maze was an experiment and we're the test subjects." I look away, trying to signal them to not ask me questions.
They finish up their conversation and Newt pulls me away with him as he yells at others to finish up and get inside the Homestead.
"I believe you." I look up at him.
"Really?" I ask hopefully.
"Of course, you haven't given me any reason not to." He kisses me on the forehead and we start walking to the Homestead in a comfortable silence. We stayed by the door, making sure everyone got in. Thomas was the last one. He walked in and we followed, closing the door behind us.

It was really cramped inside, because most Gladers usually slept outside at night. The Keepers distributed pillows and blankets and told everyone where to sleep. When everyone was settled I found myself in a room with Newt, Thomas, Minho and Alby. I was sat on the bed with Newt, and the others were sat around us in chairs.
They continued their conversation from earlier, but I just rested my head on Newts shoulder and tried to sleep. He snaked one of his arms around my waist and held my hand with the other. The conversation soon turned into an argument like it usually does, but I kept my eyes shut and tried to block it out. My name is mentioned every now and then, but I don't care.
I hear Alby leave to go to the Map Room and everything goes silent.

We eventually decide to sleep. Minho and Thomas settle on the floor and I lay down on the bed. Newt lays down behind me and wraps a protective arm around me, pulling me closer. He kisses the back of my head and I start to drift off to sleep. Not even worried about the Grievers, because having Newt here with me made me feel safe. I slept for a few hours, enjoying the peace and quiet.

Then something changed.

I was woken suddenly by a mechanized surge of a Griever right outside. I started to panic, but Newt quickly pulled me close towards his chest, giving me light kisses on the forehead. I was still scared, but no longer on the verge of a panic attack. I kissed him on the cheek as a thank you. Minho had already calmed everyone else down. Newt got up and tiptoed towards the only window, which was covered by three planks of wood. He carefully looked out through the cracks between the boards. Thomas got up and slowly made his way over to Newt. He crouched lower than Newt to look through another crack between the boards. After a few minutes Thomas turned and sat with his back resting against the wall and Newt came back over to me. The Grievers could still be heard throughout the Maze and Glade. I jumped every time I heard something, which made Newt pull me closer to him. They all sounded so close. I almost screamed when I heard and felt a Griever digging it's spikes into the side of the Homestead and climbing it's way up. I buried my head in Newts chest. I felt him help me stand and guide me to the back wall furthest from the window.

Everything went silent. I couldn't hear anything except the beating of mine and Newts hearts. Everyone was holding their breaths and on edge, staring at the window.

Then, completely unexpected, the door from the hall flew open, causing everyone to gasp and shout. We all shot around to see who had opened the door.
It was Gally.
His clothes were torn and filthy, his eyes wide. He looked completely insane. He fell to his knees. Newt stops me before I run to his side. His breaths are deep and heavy and it's all we could hear.
"They'll kill you." He suddenly screamed. "The Grievers will kill you all - one every night till it's over." No one moved or spoke as he staggered to his feet. He looked at me then turned to Thomas and pointed at him. "You, it's all your fault!" He pulled his arm back and punched Thomas right in his ear.
"Gally stop." I stand and push him away, into the desk making the lamp fall and shatter. "What happened to you?" I started to cry. I knew I shouldn't have been so weak, but seeing what my brother had turned into just hurt me so much i had to cry. He wasn't phased by it.
"It can't be solved, the shuck Maze'll kill all you shanks... the Grievers'll kill you... one every night till it's over... I... it's better this way..." He looked to the floor and I took one step towards him. "They'll only kill you one a night... their stupid variables..."
"Gally, please, you need to be quiet, there's a Griever right outside," I try to plead. "If we're quiet it may go away." He looked up and narrowed his eyes at me.
"You don't get it, (Y/N). You're too stupid - you've always been too stupid. There's no way out - there's no way to win! They're gonna kill you you, all of you - one by ONE!" He screamed and ran for the window, ripping and the planks we had covering it. Before anyone could react he had already ripped one board free and thrown it to the floor.
"No!" Newt and I both yell, running towards him, Thomas right behind us.
Gally had already ripped out the second bored and once we were close enough, he turned and used both hands to smash me in the head with it. I fell backwards and Newt catches me. He moves me over to the bed and I could feel blood dripping down my face. Gally is still yelling, but it's only a whisper compared to the load ringing in my ears. I fell unconscious.
