Chapter 14

When my class on Tuesday ended, I walked out of the university and sat on a nearby bench to wait for Grayson to come out. We had to leave right away because it was the day of my first ultrasound. I was dying to know if the baby was a boy or girl, but I know I had to wait until I had my second ultrasound, which was in six weeks. Grayson really wanted to know as well.

Belle's class was right beside mine, so she walked out of the building a few moments after me and sat down. "Want to hang out today?" she asked. "Devon is working again and I am going to be extremely bored out of my mind."

       "I can't," I said. "I have a doctor's appointment."

Belle nodded, but then sighed. "I don't want to accuse you of anything, but I feel like you're hiding something from me."

"I'll tell you next week," I said. I had to tell my family first and I was going to have to tell them in two days when Grayson and I see them for Thanksgiving.

Belle raised an eyebrow. "So you are hiding something from me? I was kind of hoping that you would assure me that it's nothing."

"I'm not really hiding it from you," I said. "I just haven't told anyone yet." Well, I told Elliot but that didn't really count since it was a complete accident.

       "Is it bad?" Belle asked.

"I wouldn't say bad," I said. "Just....I don't know. It's not really bad. But I promise I'll tell you next week, most likely Monday."

"Okay," Belle said, giving me a faint smile to tell me she wasn't mad at me, thankfully. "Well, I'll see you later."

She got up and walked off right as Grayson walked over. "Ready to go?" he asked.

I nodded and stood up from the bench. Grayson's car was parked in the parking lot of the university since we drove here, not even caring that it was a five minute walk. There was no point of walking all the way back to our apartment after class just to get in his car.

The ultrasound was being done at the hospital since Dr. Shay's office wasn't equipped with it. Her sister was actually the ultrasound technician, so I already knew her.

"Hey," Grayson said when we were driving to the hospital. "Want to bet on what the gender is?"

"You know we won't find out for another six weeks, right?" I asked. "And even then, we might not know the gender."

Grayson shrugged. "So? I still want to bet. I bet it will be a....Actually, I have no idea."

"What do you want it to be?" I asked.

"I never really thought about it," Grayson said. "I'll be happy with a daughter or a son, so I don't really want a specific gender. What about you?"

"I don't know, I kind of want a girl," I admitted. "I can just imagine dressing her in cute little dresses and headbands and all that stuff. But it it's a boy, I'll be happy too. I just really want to know what it is."

"Same here," Grayson said. "Flower, does your dad work on Tuesdays?"

"Yeah, I think so," I said. "Why?"

"We're going to the hospital," Grayson said. "Where your dad works. Where my dad works."

I widened my eyes, remembering the fact that both of our dads work at the hospital we were going to. "You don't think we'll bump into them, do you?" I asked. "I know my dad doesn't specialize in the maternity ward, but what if we bump into him? He'll ask a lot of questions and wonder what we're doing there. I'm not ready to tell him yet. I need two more days to figure it all out. What if...."

"Flower," Grayson interrupted. "Calm down. The hospital is big enough that we might not bump into them. If we go in and head straight to the maternity ward, there's a good chance we won't bump into them. And even if we do bump into your dad, shouldn't you be honest with him? You're eleven weeks and the only people that know are Elliot, Laughlin, and his two brothers, and that was because you accidentally told Elliot."

"I'm telling them on Thanksgiving," I said. "I promise. I want to tell them all together and Thanksgiving is the day when we will all be together."

"Alright," he said. "But, if we do bump into either of our dads, which I hope won't happen because I don't want to see mine, we're going to have to think of something to say."

       "I know," I muttered.

We got to the hospital soon and Grayson parked the car. We went inside and quickly went to where my ultrasound was taking place so we wouldn't bump into either of our dad's. Luckily, we didn't.

Dr. Shay's sister, Dr. Raymond, was waiting for us there. "Hi, Poppy," she said with a warm smile. "Are you ready for your first ultrasound?"

       I nodded. "Yeah."

"Great," she said. "And luckily, you're right on time so we can get started. Both of you, follow me." She led us to the room where the ultrasound was going to be. She gestured for me to lie down, so I did. Grayson sat beside me, intertwining his hand in mine. "So, today, we're going to be doing a few things. First, we'll check for your baby's heartbeat. Then I'll show you an image of the baby, and finally, I'll have to determine the due date more accurately. Ready?" I nodded, so she got me to lift up my shirt to show my belly. She spread a gel on it before taking a device and rubbing it on my belly, telling me she was trying to find the heartbeat. Soon enough, we heard it. The heartbeat of my and Grayson's baby. "There it is."

"Holy crap," Grayson said quietly. He looked in so much awe just by hearing the heartbeat.

"It's always an amazing sound to hear," Dr. Raymond said.

"I think I'm tearing up now," I said, wiping the tears from my eyes. I didn't know why, but it was such a beautiful sound. I couldn't believe I was actually listening to my baby's heartbeat.

"Well, you'll be happy to hear that your baby has a healthy heartbeat," Dr. Raymond said. "Would you like to see the ultrasound on the screen now?" I nodded, so she got another device and did the same thing she did with the other one. "There, on the screen."

Grayson and I looked at the screen and I swear, he was starting to tear up as well. "You okay?" I asked him, giving his hand that was in mine a tight squeeze.

"Yeah," he said, still in a soft voice. "It's just amazing."

"It's too small to tell the gender, but we might be able to at your next ultrasound," Dr. Raymond said. "It depends in the position your baby is in. But right now, you can see the head right there." She pointed to the screen. "You can see the she or he is curled up right now."

"It's so cute," Grayson said. "Now I really can't wait to see if it's a girl or a boy."

       "Me too," I said.

"Would you look a picture of the ultrasound?" Dr. Raymond asked.

       "Yes, please," I said.

After talking for a bit and telling us when the due date is -June 11th- she handed us the picture of the ultrasound and scheduled for us to come back next month when I was sixteen weeks pregnant. We thanked her before we left.

"That was amazing," Grayson said. "I know we didn't plan for it to happen, but I'm kind of glad it did."

"Honestly, me too," I said. "I wasn't sure if I wanted to raise a baby at my age, but seeing the ultrasound and listening to the heartbeat....It was an amazing feeling. So, thank you, for giving me her. Or him."

Grayson chuckled and kissed my cheek. "You're welcome."

I was extremely tired today so it took me a long time to write this. cx I might have the next chapter up in the next two-three hours since I wrote part of it yesterday.

The picture above is of Elliot's wedding dress. I loved how simple it is. When I saw it while trying to find one, I thought that it definitely screamed Elliot.
