Chapter 46
I woke up feeling something on my neck. Once I realized what it was, or who it was more precisely, I sighed. "Grayson...."
"Yes?" Grayson murmured against my neck before kissing it again. And again. And again.
He woke my up like this quite a lot, but I wasn't going to lie, I loved it.
Well, that was until there was a knock on the front door. Grayson sighed, pulling away from me and laid down on the bed. "Aren't you going to get that?" I asked him.
"Aren't you?" Grayson asked me, giving me his famous pouty look as he stroked my cheek with his thumb.
I gave him a fake wince. "I would, but I'm cramping really bad. Like, really bad."
Grayson must have believed me because he sighed deeply before kissing my forehead and getting out of bed. "Just tell me if you need anything," he said before going to answer the door.
Since he was up, I decided to get out of bed as well. I just didn't want to be the one to open the door, if that made any sense. Besides, Ryder was stirring a bit, so I walked over to the crib just in time to see him yawn and open his eyes.
"Hi, Ryder," I said, taking him out of his crib. Ryder babbled and stuck his hands on my face, which made me giggle a bit. "Want to go see your dada?"
"Dada!" Ryder said with a smile. I placed him on the floor, where he quickly crawled out of the bedroom.
I began digging through my drawers of my dresser, trying to find something to wear when a very familiar voice exclaimed, "Grayson Alan Prince! You dare have a son and not tell me about it?!"
Wondering who was here, I walked out of the bedroom, only to see Grayson's grandma, Mallory, slap Grayson upside the head. "Ow, Grandma!" Grayson said as he rubbed his head. "I thought Mom and Dad told you!"
"You thought wrong!" Mallory said. "All this time, I've been a great grandmother and you never told me!"
"I'm sorry," Grayson muttered. "You didn't need to slap me."
Mallory ignored Grayson and looked at me, giving me a smile. "Poppy!" she said happily, walking over to me and giving me a hug. "It's so good to see you again!"
"You too," I said, returning the smile. "Grayson seriously never told you?" I thought he would have seeing as Mallory was one, at Elliot's wedding when I was pregnant, and two, one of the few people in Grayson's family that he actually talked to.
"No, he didn't," Mallory said, curling her lips into a pout that looked almost identical to the one Grayson gave me all the time. At least I knew where he got it from.
Grayson sighed and picked up Ryder, who was pulling on Grayson's leg. "I really did think Mom and Dad would have told you, Grandma," Grayson said. "But, since they didn't, this is Ryder. He's seven months old."
"Seven months and already crawling?" Mallory asked. "Wow, he's probably going to be an active kid. Can I hold him?"
"Yeah, of course," Grayson said, handing Ryder over to her. "Do you want anything to drink, Grandma?"
"Just a water, please," Mallory said before she sat down on the couch.
While Grayson headed to the kitchen, I went back to the bedroom to get changed. After I was changed, I went back to the living room, where Grayson was now sitting beside his grandma. I sat down on the other side of him.
"He's such a cutie," Mallory said. "He looks just like the both of you, with his bright smile like his mom's and his blue eyes like his dad's. You two made a cute baby."
"Thank you, Grandma," Grayson said.
Grayson reached onto the coffee table where Ryder's stuffed otter was and handed it to him. Ryder babbled, then began chewing on the otter.
"I still wish I knew about him when he was born," Mallory said. "Or even before he was born."
"Sorry," Grayson said. "When I told Gale and Graeme, I didn't even think about telling anyone else. I mean, Mom and Dad only found out because Gale said I was going to be a dad and Ginny overheard, then Ginny asked me about it with Mom and Dad nearby. I wasn't even going to tell them."
"How is everything between you and your parents?" Mallory asked.
"Um, it's getting better," Grayson said. "Well, it is between me and Mom. She's willing to get things to work between us, but Dad isn't. I'll forgive him if he shows he's really sorry, but he won't try. How about you? How's everything going? Are you still traveling?"
Mallory started traveling after she retired five years ago, so she was rarely here in Miami. But, whenever she was here, she visited Grayson because he was her favorite grandson. Even Graeme knows that.
"I'll always be traveling," she said. "Although, now that I know my favorite grandson has a son, I might stay in Miami for a while before heading off to my next destination."
Grayson smiled. "I'd like that. I barely see you anymore, Grandma." He gave her his fake pout. "It wounds me."
Mallory rolled her eyes. "Stop with that pouty look, Grayson. I started it and only I can use it."
"He uses it on me all the time," I said. "But it rarely works, so he had to keep working on it."
"Oh, by the way, Flower, do you need any medicine?" he asked.
"For what?" I asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"For you cramps," Grayson said.
"Oh, no, I lied about them," I said, not even caring that I admitted to lying. "I just didn't want to get out of bed. And you fell for it."
"Of course I fell for it," Grayson said. "If my girlfriend says she has cramps or she's hurting anywhere, I'm not going to call her a liar. That's un-boyfriend like."
"Well, thank you for being a good boyfriend," I said.
"Correction, the best boyfriend," Grayson said.
"You're the only boyfriend I've ever had, so I can't really compare," I said.
"Well, you are the best girlfriend I've ever had," Grayson said, wrapping his arm around me.
I snorted. "Grayson, you've had one other girlfriend and you were with her for a few months."
"You're still the best," Grayson said.
"Aww!" Mallory suddenly gushed. "I'm sorry, but I'm really happy you found the one, Grayson. So, when's the wedding?"
"Grandma, we're only boyfriend and girlfriend," Grayson said. "Besides, we have to focus on Ryder and university."
Mallory scoffed. "Tell that to your cousin, Grayson. She's married, almost for a year. Not to mention her husband has been raising his brothers for quite some time now."
"But they're not in university," Grayson pointed out. "But, I do agree that Poppy is the one for me." He gave me a smile. "You definitely are the one, Flower."
"And you're the one for me, Grayson," I said before resting my head on his chest. He really was.
