I struggle against my captures grasp.
"C'mon Poison get up I need you!" I think trying to will him to open his eyes and save me. I grunt trying to escape and I faintly see him open his eyes. I try and call out to him but the man holding me covers my mouth.
"Keep running." The big bald man standing in front of my croaks out.
No, no, no, no, no.
I kick and struggle as they start to drag me away. They set me down in the back of a car and slam the door in my face. I run to the window and look out. I can still see the killjoys lying there on the ground. I bang against the door.
"Rachel!"
"Poison! Poison! Please! HELP ME!" I scream with no avail.
"Rachel! Wake up!"
I jolt awake, drenched in sweat. I look around and see I'm sleeping in my bunk at the outpost. I put my head in my hands.
"Rachel? Are you okay?"
I turn my head and see Brendon, my bunk mate looking at me with concern in his eyes.
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine. I just had a bad dream." I tell him running a hand through my hair.
He continue to look at my warily before jumping back into good ole Brendon
"GET UP GET UP! We start patrolling in like 15 minutes and you look like crap"
"Wow thanks, Brendon" I say punching his arm lightly. I slip out of my cot and rub my eyes. I remember that day from my dream so clearly, it still haunts me. I grab my jacket. It's the one he gave me the day before I lost them. I shove it on before going out the door.
"You coming?" I tease Brendon as I walk out the door. He laughed and ran to catch up.
As we walked through the outpost people would stop to say hello or just salute if they were too shy to say anything. Everyone knew who I was and were fully aware of my importance. At first, Brendon was afraid to even look at me. But, after a while – a very long talk – he lightened up around me. Now, we were best friends. Which was nice because most people wouldn't even look me in the eyes. It's not like I'm evil or going to kill you for making eye contact with me. Honestly I was really lonely and wanted a friend. Which is why I really appreciated Brendon.
Life around the outpost could be boring. We didn't go out more than 20 miles and other than that, I would listen to them plan this big idea that they would invade BLI HQ. But, it's not possible... trust me I know. They were very determine to do this though. To avenge the Killjoys. I want to avenge them, more than anyone here.
"Rachel!" Brendon's voice broke through my thoughts.
"What!"
He rolled his eyes.
"What is going on in that head of yours? I've been trying to have a conversation with you forever." He said with a laugh.
"Sorry, I'm just thinking..." I say apologetically.
"Yeah, you seem to do that a lot." He chuckled.
"When you're me, you have a lot to think about." I murmur quietly.
Brendon stared at me thoughtfully for a second. Eventually he nodded and continued to talk.
Sometimes, people stare at me, like I'm crazy. Which some people do believe I'm crazy, because of my belief that the boys aren't actually dead. That BLI can't be defeated without the Killjoys. I trust them, he promised me... he promised. I rub the bottom of the jacket, to find some comfort.
"Rachel and Brendon! Finally I thought you were going to be late." The Patrol manager called over to us.
"Nah, why would we ever be late! Oh, ye of little faith." Brendon smirked.
"Sorry Patrick." I say sheepishly.
"Doesn't matter, just get going. You guys are patrolling the west border today. Got your blasters?"
"Of course. Do I ever go anywhere without it." I told him.
"No, I don't suppose you do. Get out of here. Be back by noon." He instructed.
We start to head out when I remembered.
"Wait! I need to grab something!" I say running back to my bunk. My radio. I always take it with us on our patrols. I liked to listen to the reports of what was going on in the outside world. Also, Doctor Death Defy voice was soothing in a weird way.
"Got it." I said when I returned to Brendon.
"Always with the radio."
"What can I say? It reminds me of a better time."
Patrolling consisted of walking around the border of the camp and looking for anything unusual or out of the ordinary. There never was anything weird. The outpost is so well hidden, not even Kobra Kid himself could find it. Okay, well that's going a bit far but you get the point. I was the only person to go on patrol with anyone else. Always afraid BLI would find me and take me away. I can defend myself thank you very much. But, I liked Brendon's company so I allowed it.
"So then I said to the guy 'Oh yeah, well fuck off mate!'" Brendon burst out laughing. I giggled at how ridiculous this guy was.
"What didn't you think that was funny?" he asked with tears in his eyes.
"To be honest I wasn't really listening." I say putting a hand over my mouth to hide my obvious smile.
As we came to the border of the outpost, Brendon suddenly stopped talking and glanced sharply at the ground.
"Brendon what is-"I looked down and saw one of those awful masks. My eyes widened and I saw the face. So, many of them, all around me. Shooting and falling like flies.
"Rachel! C'mon we need to go." Brendon said sharply. Sounding more serious than he ever had before. I looked over at him still not fully in the moment with him. I saw he was holding the mask. I could take my eyes off of it. I started to breath heavily.
*snap*
Brendon's fingers snapped in front of my eyes and I was back.
"We need to go now." He said darkly.
I nodded and started to run. We ran all the way back to the outpost.
"Rachel? Brendon? You're back 30 minutes early." Patrick inquired as we arrived.
I looked around wildly.
"Hayley... we... need.... Hayley." I pant out.
"What? She's in the meeting room with Pete and Andy. You can't disturb her- WAIT"
But we had already started running. Brendon shot in front of me.
"HAYLEY!" He shouted as he burst into the room.
I followed in behind him, staring wildly around the room.
Andy and Pete stood from their seats to look at the incomers. Hayley turned to face us.
"Rachel, It's nice to see you. We weren't expecting –"
"Cut the shit, we were on patrol and saw this." I interrupt him.
Brendon threw the mask on the table. I saw as Hayley's eyes widened, and Pete and Andy took a step back. I took a chance and looked at the mask again and noticed something I hadn't before. 3 words.
We found you.
