Chapter 5 – A Great Race
After sorting it out with security, we all went back to the main stage. I learned that the boy who came with Niall’s name was Harry and I introduced them all to Derek and Alex and vise-versa. Immediately Ashton and Alex started messing around with the drums and Derek made quick friends with everyone, like usually does. The boy in question was currently laughing at the side of the stage with Harry, Niall and Calum. Michael and Luke were helping me tune the instruments, which was actually really helpful.
“Okay,” I said putting the guitar I had just finished with on its stand, “I think were done. Now all we have to do is check the sound levels.” I turned around and raised my voice. “Who’s up for running to the back and telling me how well they can hear everything?”
“I’m up for racing someone back there!” Derek piped up,
“I’ll race.”
“I’m up.”
“Bring it!”
There was a chorus of agreement and I looked at Luke, who hadn’t said anything, beside me who shrugged.
“Okay, but I’m taking a video!” Soon the boys who wanted to race were all lined up on the stage facing the back of the auditorium. Derek, Alex, Harry and Calum all took racing poses while the rest of us sat on the stage and I set up the video record on my phone.
“Okay, on three!” I shouted, “Three!”
Derek and Calum immediately jumped off the stage and started jumping over a couple of rows of seats, while Harry and Alex hesitated for a moment before taking off as well. The boys ran to the back, jumping over chairs and tripping until it was only Harry and Alex in the lead. Derek had tripped earlier and was farther behind while Calum, having practically flown over a row of chairs and face planted, was lying on the ground pretending to die.
In the last few steps Alex overtook Harry and touched the wall shouting out that he was the winner. Harry finished a couple steps later and both boys collapsed to the floor trying to catch their breath.
After gaining all the boys at the other end approval for the level of sound of all the instruments they all walked back, too tired to race again. We still had a couple hours left so we all went backstage and checked out the dressing room.
The dressing room had a couple couches that everyone draped themselves on and a TV that Alex started hooking up his xbox.
For the next while we all hung out, taking turns playing the video game and having a great time. Alex and Derek got along great with all of the boys and I was really starting to grow fond of them, they were really fun.
“I’m hungry.” Derek pouted, about an hour and half before the show was supposed to start. “Emily get me food.”
I raised my eyebrow at him,
“Do I look like your maid?” I asked. He opened his mouth to reply before I put my hand over it. “Don’t you dare say anything.” Then I turned to the rest of the group.
“I don’t want to go to a restaurant, anyone in favor of pizza? Who’s coming with me to get it?”
There was a chorus of agreements and a couple volunteers, so I looked up the phone number for the closest pizza place and placed an order.
And, the events in that order, explain why, right now, I’m running down the street behind Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Luke Hemmings, carrying 5 large pizzas and being chased by a mob of girls.
