Chapter 7 - Skype
For the next couple of months, Derek, Alex and I concentrated on writing. You could find me either at school, or in their apartment. We got most of the songs for the album put together, and Carry booked us some studio time so we started recording. Between recording, writing and school we had been doing some live shows on weekends, most of them sold out. We were gaining quite a lot of popularity and it was amazing to see that some people were excited to hear our album.
Currently we were in Alex's room trying to figure out how the bridge went on one of our songs.
"I really don't like the key change at the end of the verse leading into the bridge." I said after Derek played the same line we had been working on for almost an hour.
"Yeah me neither." Alex added, picking up a pen and scribbling out the notes we had written over our lyrics sheet. Derek bit his lip in concentration before trying a different riff.
"What is we changed the G, and added quieter picking instead of quiet strumming?"
Derek suggested.
"No, it takes away from the line, I don't like it." Alex argued and I slammed my head onto the desk with a groan.
"Can we decide? I'm so tired of hearing this, I'm going to end up hating this song." I heard my computer ping from across the room, "Hallelujah!"
I got up and went over to open my laptop,
"Harry is skyping us!" I called.
Derek, Alex and I had gone to the boy's concert the night after they came to ours. We met the rest of their band and they were great lads. The concert was amazing, and their fans were so loud. I found it so inspiring that their fans knew all the words to all their songs and sang along. It must be an amazing feeling. After the concert we kept in contact with the boys, it was an odd week where we didn't Skype at least once. When they came back for the Much Music Video Awards for a couple days, they had spent most of the time hanging out at my house and watching movies with us and we had all become close. I now considered the crazy, idiotic teens some of my closest friends. They were finishing up their current tour and would be returning home soon.
I clicked the answer button and was greeted with Harry's face.
"Hey!" He waved animatedly, "Long time no see!"
"Hey!" We chorused together before I continued, "Where are you guys now?"
"Were in California, it's our last stop." He said and his eyes dulled a bit only to light up a moment late, "But were talking about a new tour! Maybe this summer!"
"Can I just live your life?" Derek joked from behind my shoulder.
"Hey who are you skyping with?" I heard a voice on Harry's end of the call.
"It's Emily, Derek and Alex!" Harry called leaving the view of the camera for a minute before returning. The familiar faces of Louis and Liam popped into the view and they both looked into the laptop before smiling and waving.
"Hey!"
"Did you guys just get off stage?" Alex asked peering into the screen,
"Can you tell?" Louis said shaking, "I think I need a shower, I'm covered in sweat.
"Yeah, I can smell you from here buddy." Liam joked, jokingly plugging his nose and moving away. Louis jumped and engulfed him in a hug earning a shove from Liam and they both fell onto Harry's lap on the couch.
"Don't break my laptop you idiots!" Harry said before pushing them both onto the floor and laughing. Liam got up and sat on the couch but Louis still on the floor.
"Is he alright?" I asked peering at the bottom of the laptop screen.
"Yeah he's fine." Liam replied kicking Louis who swore at him. Suddenly Niall's face appeared in the corner of the screen.
"Hey guys!" He looked at Louis on the floor, but shrugged it off before turning to Harry. "Have you asked them yet?"
"No, Louis and Liam were trying to kill me!" He replied.
"No we weren't!" Louis shouted from the ground, before finally getting up and leaning against the couch they were sitting on.
"Hey, what are you going to ask us?" I asked waving my hand to gain their attention.
"Well you see," Harry started folding his hands in front of him and leaning on the table, "We might be going on a tour in the summer."
"Yeah you said that already..." Derek stated, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion.
"Well, we might need an opening act..." He continued.
"What about the boys?" Alex asked, referring to the boys in 5 Seconds of Summer.
"Well, they will be joining us for the European leg of the tour, but they have their own tour of Australia happening during the summer-"
"That's so great of them! They must be so psyched!" I interrupted happily.
"Stop interrupting!" Harry complained.
"You're taking forever Harry!" Louis complained before dramatically laying on the floor, out of view again.
"Well if people would stop interrupting me!" He argued looking down at Louis on the floor.
"Harry, nobody's interrupting you!" Liam added.
"Yeah Harry!" Louis yelled from under the camera's view.
"Would you guys like to be our opening act for the American leg of our tour?" asked Niall over all of the other boys' voices, stopping them mid-conversation.
"Hey I was supposed to ask!" Complained Harry,
"Well you were taking too long!" Niall responded, and our view changed to Liam, as he grabbed the laptop.
"What do you guys think?"
