Chapter 68

Luca was waiting for Paulo and Fabio.  He was all business the last couple of weeks.  He hardly had anytime for Ari and he felt bad.  After his meeting he was going to go to her and lose himself in her, if she would have him.  He knew it had been hard on her, him being away so much but she never nagged him or whined about it.  Just a hug, kiss and 'I love you' when he left and when he returned.  He felt like an ass but it couldn't be helped right now.  "Update" he said all business.  Paulo told him about their meeting how both entrances were covered and they had taken care of the windows in the balcony area and all service employees had been vetted.  They talked more about strategy, plans, weapons and how they would dispose of Morelli's body when it was over with.  "Luciano Lucchese was all but on a plane and on his way here.  I managed to talk him out of it.  I know what he is wanting to do and I applaud him for it but I need to keep him safe.  It would not look good on us if something happened to Don Lucchese on our watch".  Fabio and Paulo nodded in agreement.  "Gentlemen" Luca said rising "if there is nothing else, I need and want to see my fiance".  He could tell that Fabio and Paulo weren't finished.  He sighed, running his hand through his hair, sat back down.  "What is it?" he asked wearily.  "It's Z, Luca.  We're not sure if we can trust him" Paulo said motioning to he and Fabio.  "Continue" Luca said, now very interested.  "Boss every time we meet at Santini's for a meeting he's been really late.  Three times out of the last two weeks.  Can't or won't account for his whereabouts" Fabio finished.  "Paulo, what do you think?" asked Luca.  The man scratched his chin, thought a moment then said "I think we need to watch him like a hawk and I don't think we need to take him in when we have meetings at Santini's and see what his reaction is to this strategy".  "I like it" Luca said.  "Keep me updated.  One more thing, I know it's been very stressful around here the last couple of weeks and I haven't been in a very good frame of mind.  But know this, I trust both of you with my life and Ari's life and the life of this family.  You have never let me down."  He got a nod from both men as they rose from their chairs Paulo held open the door and they filed out of the office.  "Paulo I'm going to see my fiance now and..." Paulo finished it for him "unless someone is bleeding to death or the house is on fire you don't want to be disturbed...I got it!"  Luca just shook his head and started for the stairs.  He needed to bury himself in his woman and he needed to do it now.  He stalked toward the bedroom door like a man on a mission.
