Chapter 97

I finally made an appointment with an OBGYN in the city and of course Luca wouldn't miss it for the world.  The doctor was well regarded and he squeezed us in.  "Mr. Constanti if you could just wait outside one moment we have to prepare for an internal sonogram.  Since Ms. Lucchese is not too far along this is what happens on the first appointment."  Luca wasn't thrilled but he understood.  I got changed into a gown and got up on the table and put my feet in the stirrups.  Dr. Gideon took a condom and pulled it over a long wand looking instrument.  "Now just relax and we will get you situated and let your fiance back in the room."  It felt invasive but I didn't feel uncomfortable.  "Mr. Constanti you can come back in" the doctor called.  I was captivated by the screen when I felt Luca grasp my hand.  "Now let's see here....okay see this?" the doctor asked pointing to the screen.  All we saw was a tiny caterpillar shaped form inside something that looked like a sac.  We both nodded.  "This area here" he said pointing to the sac "is your placenta and this right here is your uterus.  And this little beauty here" he said pointing to the caterpillar "is your beautiful baby."  He started clicking the keyboard and taking measurements and clicking stills which he said would be our pictures.  I could feel the tears running down my face.  I felt Luca's breath on my face as he said "besides you that's the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!"  We talked some more to the doctor and he told me that I was probably right around 4 weeks.  He told us about the next appointment, what to do and what not to do, taking prenatal vitamins, etc.  I left the office feeling like I was on cloud 9.
