Natalie came flying down the stairs out of breath and told Luca that he needed to call Dr. Banks right away. She told both him and Paulo that she was running a fever and that she thought some of the incision was maybe infected and was bleeding. Luca was on the phone to the doctor as he bounded up the stairs followed by Paulo and Natalie, telling Liam everything that Natalie had told him. Banks said he was on his way not to worry he would get her taken care of. Luca looked down his face full blown worry mode now and brushed the hair away from her sweaty brow. Her eyes were closed and she breathing heavy. Damn it he thought please God let her be okay. He couldn't believe this was happening. Paulo and Natalie said that they would go wait for the doctor and told him not to worry. Luca got down on his knees beside the bed, stroking her face and kissing the top of her hand. "Luca" she said "I don't feel very good" her eyes never opening. "I know baby. It's okay. Please don't try to talk. Dr. Banks is on his way. Just rest now. Just rest." He continued talking with her while waiting on Liam to arrive. He was telling her how much he loved and needed her. He slid open the drawer of the bedside table and pulled out a ring box. It contained Ari's engagement ring. He slipped it back on her finger and then lightly touched it with his lips. Where is he Goddamn it Luca thought impatiently and just then the door swung open and Liam Banks strode in all business.
After he finished with Ari, Dr. Banks asked to see Luca downstairs. Luca, Liam, Paulo and Natalie were in the kitchen waiting for the doctor to finish washing his hands. "Well, she is running a fever and that's not anything to worry about. It's actually typical for these kinds of injuries. What we don't want is for her to spike a high grade fever because that means infection. I started her on an antibiotic IV and butterflied the wound. It wasn't opened bad enough to warrant stitches. My guess is she started feeling better and tried to do too much. I gave her a pain pill and she should sleep through the night. It will take about 30 more minutes for the IV to finish so I will stay, with your permission of course, and remove everything so you don't have to concern yourself with doing that. I will take care of the paperwork as well and get it faxed over to her doctor at the hospital. They will need to add it to her medical file." Luca was fine with him staying. Natalie was going to fix lunch for the men while Luca disappeared upstairs to go be with Arienne.
She finally looks peaceful Luca thought to himself. What she'd gone through these last couple of days, shit what everyone had gone through was emotionally taxing but they were a family and they would see their way clear of all of this. Luca had already decided that there would be a wedding soon. Carpe diem (seize the day) he thought. When Ari felt better they would discuss this. He didn't want to wait any longer to take her as his wife, to have her bare his name and his child. It was time. She was all he needed in this aspect of his life; nothing more and nothing less. She is his everything. He laid his head on the bed and put her hand over the top of his and drifted off. Luca woke to the feeling of gentle fingers running through his hair and the face of an angel looking at him. God he loved her! "How you doing baby?" he asked kissing the top of her hand. She smiled but it didn't reach her eyes. "I'm fine Luca" she said, her voice sounding strained. Luca let out a deep sigh. "Ari we have to address the elephant in the room. I know you heard what I said and baby I'm sorry it hurt you. I know I can trust you, God do I know this. But you scared the shit out of me. You're brave, crazy, loving and strong but you have to promise me that you won't do anything like that ever again. I couldn't take it if something were to happen to you again." "Will you help me sit up?" she asked softly. The IV was long gone but I was still worried about her incision. "Here you go" he said. "How's that?" She nodded. "Could you help me to the shower?" Ari asked. Luca stood up and started to help her walk towards the bathroom.
Luca started the shower, got undressed and then helped Ari undress and into the shower. She stood there like a little child, shivering and unsure of herself. "Come here" Luca said softly drawing her to him. As he held her there under the steamy water he could feel the tension slowly lifting off her body and her arms going around his waist. He rested his chin on top of her head and they stood there for a while, not saying anything just enjoying the touch of one another. He could feel her head move, looked down and her chin was resting on his chest. She was just looking up at him with her big brown eyes and then she placed a kiss in the middle of his chest and laid her head back down. She'd forgiven him, no words necessary but he knew it and relief just went through his body. "I really want to talk to you when were done in here" he said. She sighed and tried to push off of him not really wanting another lecture. "Ari, it's not about what happened. This is something completely different" his eyes shining with an emotion she wasn't sure of but was eager to find out.
I feel the need to add something here. As women, we sometimes feel like we can't be sick or down without the world ceasing to spin. Let's face it, when we are sick or whatever, the world continues to go on. Sometimes we feel like we have to be all things to all people in our lives. I know when I'm sick, take medicine and start to feel better I feel like I conquer the world only to fall flat on my back feeling worse than before. This is what I was trying to portray in Ari's character. Yes, she was shot, yes she should have taken it easy, but she's a woman and she's stubborn and she learned the hard way. Anyway, I just felt the need to clear this part up due to some comments that I had received. Thanks again for reading, voting and commenting! You guys rock!
