Chapter 57 (Ari's mom Victoria Lucchese)

Ari couldn't believe it but everything was ready for her parents arrival.  She kept pacing and checking her watch.  Damn!  It was only 3 minutes later than the last time she checked her watch.  Luca walked up behind her and put his arms around her waist.  His touch seemed to calm her.  "I know I must seem like a cat on a hot tin roof" she said.  Luca laughed.  "I'm not sure I've ever heard that expression before".  Ari whirled around and looked at him in complete shock.  "Paul Newman, Elizabeth Taylor?"  He shook his head.  Ari let out an exasperated sigh.  "Well I know what our next movie is going to be!"  Just then they heard car doors shut and her heart started beating faster.  "Oh my God they're here!" she squeaked.  She ran outside and her mom was already out of the car running towards her daughter.  "Mama" she tearfully.  They just stood there for a moment hugging and her mom pulled back, pushed her hair back behind her ear and said "now let me look at you.  I think you are even more beautiful than the last time I saw you, Bug".  "You haven't called me that in a long time" Ari said.  They hugged again and then a deep voice boomed "save some of that for me now!"  Ari looked around her mother to the tall, dark and handsome older man that stood there.  "Luc!" she yelled as he picked her up and swung her around like a father would do for his little girl.  This man really loved her.  "Mom I bet you have to beat the women off with a stick to keep them off this good looking Italian stallion!" Ari said playfully.  Everyone laughed as Luca started toward the group.  He wanted Ari to have the first moments with her family before he came and introduced himself.  He didn't even get the chance.  Ari put her arm into his arm and walked him forward.  "Mom, Dad, this is Luca.  Luca, my mom and dad" she said with such pride in her voice.  Hugs and handshakes were exchanged along with 'how was your flight' etc.  Just then Paulo came out of the house to give Fabio a hand with the Lucchese's luggage and Ari grabbed him.  "Paulo this is my mom and dad, Victoria and Luciano Lucchese.  Mom, Dad, this is Paulo.  He's sorta become my adopted big brother".  The same handshakes and hugs were given out and then Paulo excused himself to help with the bags.

"Oh Ari honey!  It's so beautiful!" her mother exclaimed when they were finally inside the house.  Ari's eyes twinkled at the compliment.  She stepped into the kitchen as her parents and Luca followed.  "Here" she said handing Luc a steaming cup.  He smelled it.  "Noooo!" he said.  He took a sip, closed his eyes and sighed. He placed the cup and saucer down and pulled Ari into a hug and kissed her on top of her head.  "Compito tea!  Delizioso!  Grazie dolce figlia (Delicious! thank you daughter!)" said Luc.  "Tu sei padre benvenuto (you are welcome father)" Ari said.  She made everyone a cup and they stood around just chatting about everything.  She was so pleased that they were here.  She would make sure that she thanked Luca properly later because God knows he deserved her adoration. Luca, Luc and Paulo excused themselves to Luca's study and the two women stayed behind in the kitchen. "Mom you are going to love Arabella, Luca's mother! I can't wait for y'all to meet!" Victoria smiled at her daughter so very thankful that she seemed so happy. Ari's mom cupped her daughter's face in her hands, looking at Ari said "he really makes you happy doesn't he? I haven't seen you smile like this since the day Luc adopted you." "Mom, he really does! I love him and he makes me incredibly happy." "Despite what he does?" Ari nodded. "Then I couldn't be more happy for the both of you!"

"So" Luc begins. "Morelli is as stupid now as he was back in my day, huh?" Luca nods. "As we told you, his attempt to intimidate Ari failed so he went after me" he said lifting his shirt. Luc whistled. "Well son I'm glad you're okay. Truly. I also would like to thank you and your second, personally, for protecting Arienne. She is very precious to me, as I know she is to you. Knowing that you would put yourself in harms way for her makes me sleep better at night. Otherwise she'd be back in Texas." "Well speaking of precious" Luca starts, indicating to Paulo who pulls the blue velvet box from his jeans pocket. Luca takes the box, opens it and hands it to Luc, searching for the older mans approval. "Bellisimo!" he says. "Luc I know I asked you over the phone but because of our family's history I would like to ask you, in person, for your daughter's hand and your blessing." Luc stood up a little taller and faced Luca; he put his hand up to Luca's face and kissed both cheeks. "I could not ask for a better choice for my daughter. You will not only make a wonderful husband but a wonderful son! Welcome to the famiglia!" Paulo slapped Luca on the back as he and Lucchese shook hands. "We better go see what the ladies are up to before they send out a search party".

The men walked back towards the kitchen to hear the women laughing. Lucchese walked over to Victoria and Luca to Ari. You could tell that both men adored their women. "Well our daughter has everything under control for tomorrow, so we will get up around 8 or 9, as I think we deserve to sleep in, and start preparing the food. Luca, Ari tells me to expect your mom around 3? I'm looking forward to meeting her!" This from Ari's mother. Luca nodded. "Yes m'am she is looking forward to tomorrow. She hasn't talked about anything else." He grinned. They talked about retiring for awhile to rest and then coming back down to the kitchen where Ari's mom would fix dinner for everyone. Luc and Victoria followed Ari and Luca up the stairs so they could be shown to their room. The two women hugged again and the older couple disappeared to their rom while Ari and Luca disappeared to their's.
