Chapter Five
"Hey, Do you wanna go get some food?" Mamoru asked Sasha who was laying on the ground in a park near the subway station. Sasha nodded and sat up to take her headphones off. She had been getting better. Mamoru had been nagging her about drinking too much and she took what he was saying seriously. Things haven't changed between Sasha and Mamoru even though Sasha wished it had. She fell hard for him. It was like he was her guardian angel that was there to help her get through this. He knew everything about her. He even knew why she was in Japan. She knew everything about him too. He lived with his mom, dad, and grandparents. His parents wanted him to become a doctor, but he would rather pursue a career as a writer. He'd been writing since he was young and it became an outlet of emotion. He felt a lot of pressure at school and home to live up to the expectations of his family, but he was a goofy person.
While eating, Sasha asked Mamoru about his name. "What about it?" He replied to the question. Sasha shrugged "Don't all Japanese names have a special meaning?" She asked. He laughed "Some do, but others just mean fifth son or first son," Sasha didn't push on it and he didn't bring it up again. She just wanted to know what the name meant.
Mamoru and Sasha went to walk around the park after they ate. "I can tell you're worried," Mamoru said to Sasha as they admired the trees and the flowers. Sasha sighed and ignored his gaze,"I don't want to talk about it Mamoru," she told him in a tone of annoyance. He gently grabbed her arm to turn her face towards him "Don't shut me out Kireina," Mamoru begged. She stared into his eyes and pushed his hand away. "I'm not your Kireina and you were never in," Sasha told him coldly before walking away.
Sasha didn't have the heart to turn around and look at the look on Mamoru's face. The highlight of her day had always been when he called her Kireina, it means beautiful one in Japanese, and she had just ruined the chance of that word ever coming out of his mouth to her. She thought to herself how stupid she was, but it was too late to turn back around. The damage had been done and she had nobody to blame but herself. As Sasha was dealing with her heartbreak, Hannah was dealing with her anger.
Hannah flew back to New York to confront Eve's cousin, Luke. Nobody else knew where they were staying and it made sense. There were multiple times when the girls thought he was eavesdropping on them. She obviously had to be cautious in every move she made. The first decision she made was that she would not approach him as herself. So, she went and got a tan and she cut her hair and dyed it blue. She stole some leggings, a t shirt, and a leather jacket. Hannah hacked into Luke's phone using the little hacking skills she learned from Eve. He was leaving the office for lunch by himself at noon. It was 11:45. Just enough time to get to the restaurant before he did.
Luke sat in a corner of the room by himself. Hannah watched him carefully to make sure he truly was alone. Twenty minutes into his lunch Hannah approached him. "Luke Hoffman?" she asked as she sat across from him. He eyes her suspiciously "Who are you?" he demanded. "A friend...or enemy. The choice is yours," she told him. He set his phone down and narrowed his eyes. "Do you realize who you are threatening? I have very high connec-" Hannah cut him off "I don't give a damn who you know. Hannah sent me. She knows you sold them out in Italy and they're coming for you. You can run and you can hide, but you will never be safe until the day you die," she informed him. Before he could retort, she calmly stood up and walked out of the building.
Hannah ditched the jacket around the corner and hotwired a car on the street and drove it to main. When she got there, she checked into a small hotel and went to sleep thinking of Lisa and the other girls. In the morning when she woke up, she was in a bare concrete room with no windows.
Meanwhile in Paris, Eve had made a lot of progress in not only Lisa's murder, but also on who had set them up. Eve thought about sending the signal out,but she knew it wasn't safe. Not if she was right about who had caused all this pain, and if she was right then there was a lot more hell coming this way than any of them could have thought.
