Chapter Ten
Jason could tell something was wrong with his daughter. She was too quiet, secluded. He just didn't know how to say something to her. He tried going to the other girls for help, but none of them knew what was wrong.
When the girls went to bed, Jason went into Lisa's old room. He looked around thinking about before she went to Italy. Looking at her desk he noticed something was different...something was missing. Then he realized what it was, there was an envelope there.
"I'm so sorry, Luke," Hannah said sympathetically placing a hand on his shoulder. He just shrugged, "It's not like you knew that they did that. I couldn't forgive her though. Even if she's my cousin I just couldn't," he told her trying to explain himself. Hannah nodded letting him know he didn't have to explain himself. The door opened and Mamoru walked in. "I want to thank you guys again for helping us," he told them giving them both hugs.
Hannah and Luke left the FBI office. Hannah was cleared of all charges. They got into a taxi headed for the airport. Once they had gotten far from the building Luke turned to Hannah and kissed her. "Why can't we tell them?" Luke whispered breaking from the kiss for a second. Hannah pulled away, "Luke, you know we can't...promise me this will just be between the two of us," she said seriously. Luke cracked a smile, "If I say yes can I kiss you again?" he asked.
"Lisa...I know you opened the envelope," Jason told Lisa while they were alone in the kitchen. She looked up briefly, "Do you know who it's from...or what it says?" she asked bitterly. He sighed and shook his head no. She looked up, "Then it's nothing."
Although she told her dad it was nothing, Lisa knew it wasn't. She still hadn't told the girls about the letter. She knew what she wanted to do...run away to her moms. Of course she couldn't do that without telling the girls. After everything they had done for her, she couldn't just leave them to go to jail for a crime she was apart of. If only Hannah was with them...she always knew what to say.
Eva snuck out of the house to go see her grandparent's graves. She sat in front of their stones and the tears started to swell up before she even began to talk. "I'm so sorry I let you down. All you ever did was protect me and love me. To think that you died because of a thief and that's exactly what I am. I wasn't the thief that killed you...but I still feel like it's my fault. Maybe if I had just been there... then...then maybe," she broke off as she started to sob. She felt a hand on her shoulder. "Grandma?" Eva asked in shock. Standing above her was her grandmother...the one whose grave she was visiting. Her grandmother sat next to her. "You didn't disappoint us darling. We love you very much and you came back in time to be there for Drew. That's what really matters," she said comforting Eva. "I don't understand...I thought you were dead? Where's grandpa?" Eva asked still in shock. "He's with Drew...I have to go too," her grandmother said standing up. "Don't go!" Eva pleaded, but it was too later her grandmother was gone.
"Eva! Eva! Eva, wake up!" Eva opened her eyes. "Hannah...what are you doing here?" she asked in confusion. "I got to the house and the others told me you were gone. I knew you would be here," Hannah told her helping Eva sit up. Eva looked around, "My grandmother...where is she? I saw her...I know it's crazy, but I swear that I saw her," Eva said looking at Hannah. "Sweety...your grandma is dead...you couldn't have seen her."
"Mamoru...what the hell is wrong with you!" Agent Cory roared storming over to his son. Mamoru couldn't even get a word out before being yelled at again, "Is this your idea of a joke! Do you realize how valuable are time is! I can't believe you right now!" Cory screamed storming away from his confused son. Mamoru looked at Agent Lappin, "What the hell did I do?" he asked. Lappin breathed out heavily, "We got to the apartment...to find it empty...except for a single heel in the fridge with the gun that Polizzi shot himself with," he told Mamoru. It was hard for Mamoru to believe and that's when it hit him that they let him escape so that they could escape.
Hannah got Eva back to the house. Luke was waiting for her with the other girls. Lisa gave her a hug, "How did it go with Mamoru?" she asked looking at Hannah and Luke. "It was perfect. He bought every word we said. He saw the video from that warehouse of me going off on you and trusted Luke. He fell for the trap and now we take them down," Hannah said smiling at the others.
Jason was still confused, "I thought she betrayed y'all?" he asked trying to comprehend the situation. Eve laughed, "That's what everyone thought...except us. We knew the FBI was closing in and we needed to confuse them and split their forces. So we planned Hannah's 'betrayal' and have secretly been in contact ever since," Eve explained the situation. Jason nodded not asking anymore questions.
Hannah, Lisa, and Dina were watching a movie in the living room. Hannah got up to go to the bathroom. She yelped when someone pulled her into the spare bedroom. She quickly turned around, "Luke what are you doing?" she hissed. He smiled, "I missed you," Luke pulled her into a kiss. Hannah wrapped her legs around him. She might have been mad but it had been hours of torture not being able to kiss him or hold his hand. Luke set her down on the bed and pulled his shirt off. Hannah flipped him over so she was straddling him. Luke pulled her shirt off and Hannah leaned down kissing him. Hannah struggled to get her pants off and when she did Luke picked her up making her gasp in surprise. Luke reconnected the kiss slamming her into the wall. It was getting heated when the door opened. Hannah yelped and grabbed the blanket closest to her, "Eve! I can explain!"
Eve, Luke, and Hannah sat in awkward silence in the bedroom. Hannah had put her clothes back on, but Luke was still shirtless. "I'm not even sure what to say," Eve admitted. "Luke wanted to tell you...I'm sorry Eve...I just didn't know how to tell you," Hannah apologized. Eve laughed, "Yea letting me walk in right before you two were about...I can't even say it," Eve said almost gagging. "Eve...Lis-" Eve cut Luke off, "I can't do this right now!" she said leaving the room. Hannah sighed and let her head fall onto Luke's shoulder," she said as a single tear fell down her cheek.
Hannah stayed in the girls room for the next couple of days. Eve still wouldn't talk to her and by now all the girls knew what had happened with Hannah and Luke. Hannah was in the room reading when Eve walked in. She sighed at Hannah's appearance. Red eyes, dried tear stains, the same clothes from the other day, and a bun that might be a nest. Eve sighed and sat down on Hannah's bed. "Hannah...I'm sorry I've been ignoring you. It's just...shocking. I don't care that you guys are together...just keep it pg when other people are around...or in the same house," she said cracking a smile. Hannah started to laugh with her, "I'm a mess aren't I?" Hannah asked laughing. Eve nodded trying to fix Hannah's hair.
The agents gathered around in the conference room. Jennifer, a technical analysis, was setting up a board with all of their evidence, clues, and theories. While waiting, the agents discussed the case. "Has anyone tried going back to the families to see if they've been contacted by their daughters?" Struck suggested. Everyone shook their head no. "Let's look and what we got and decide if we're going to New York."
Lisa laid on the grass in the backyard. She closed her eyes and breathed in deeply. Who knows how often she could smell fresh air if they got caught. While laying there, she fell asleep and dreamed about a memory when she was two years old with her mom.
Her mom laughed as she swung Lisa on the swings. Lisa was smiled and laughing yelling, "Higher, mommy, higher!" When Lisa was done swinging she raced her mom over to the picnic tables for lunch with Jason. Lisa's mom and Jason kissed and wrinkled her nose, "Yuck!". Lisa ate her peanut butter jelly sandwich in silence as her mom told Jason about their day. "Daddy! Daddy! Will you stay and swing me?" Lisa begged. Jason nodded picking her up and swinging her body around going back over to the swings. Her mom watched from afar and smiled at the two. Lisa giggled and when she got tired of the swings she ran over to the seesaw. They spent the rest of the afternoon at the park. The last time together.
Lisa woke up startled. She hasn't thought about that memory for awhile. Quietly, she slipped on shoes and grabbed a hat and sunglasses. She snuck out the front door and put the hat and sunglasses on. Lisa walked to the park where she had that memory. Looking around she noticed it was empty. Wierd.
She stayed in the park for an hour or so, but her head flew up when she heard a familiar voice. "Lisa?" It was Nate. "Nathaniel...you can't tell anyone you saw me," she pleaded. He smiled, "Don't worry about it. I promise I won't tell...Are you staying with your dad?" he asked. Lisa nodded. Nate asked to come over later and Lisa told him to meet her outside around midnight. They hugged and Lisa promised to see him later.
The other girls, Luke, and Jason were pacing the living room in a panic. They had no clue where Lisa could be. The front door opened and they all rushed to the hallway. Lisa looked up and stopped like a deer caught in the headlights. "Um...hi?" she said nervously. Jason almost imploded, "HI? THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY! WE THOUGHT YOU GOT CAUGHT OR SOMETHING. HOW COULD YOU JUST LEAVE?" he screamed. Lisa cringed at how loud he was yelling. Before she could even reply he stormed upstairs. The others followed seconds after.
Eve, Eva, and Dina were in the attic decorating. They were setting up a romantic dinner for Hannah and Luke. Eve had a hard time accepting their relationship at first, but they were respectful and kept it pg around her so it was like they were just really really close friends.
They hung up lights on the walls and set up blankets, pillows, and bean bags in the middle of the floor. There was a projector in the back of the room with grease loaded into it. They also had a disk with some romantic songs for them to dance to after the movie. In front of their blankets they laid out chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, brownies shaped like hearts, and s'mores. All finger foods. Everyone also agreed to stay in the basement for movie night to give them some privacy.
When they finally finished, Hannah and Luke were blindfolded and taken to the attic. Both were so surprised and grateful for what their friends had done for them. Eve gave them both a hug and shouted at them to use protection before leaving for the basement. Hannah smiled shyly at Luke grabbing his hand, "Finally alone again," she said pulling him closer into a kiss. Luke smiled into the kiss and pulled away leading her to the blankets. They started the movie and cuddled while eating chocolate strawberries and s'mores. They finished the movie and their snacks and Luke played the disc. Ed Sheeran 'Kiss Me' came on and they danced together slowly. Luke spun Hannah and dipped her into a kiss at the end. Hannah laughed as the chorus started again.
