"It is.6:30 A.M. It is.6:30 A.M. It is 6:30-"
I reached over and pressed the middle button to turn my alarm clock off, and began to sit up in bed. It was like every morning, except today was my first time back to school... blind.
I did the usual for the past 3 months,
feeling my way around using my hands,
scent, and memory.I was still slow on things of course, like dropping my toothbrush on the ground and taking fifteen minutes trying to find it when it actually fell on the counter.
Dressing was a pain too, but luckily wearing the uniform was easy to identify since I could feel the cold metal of the name tag that was pinned just above the chest on the right.
This year, mine was special since it was engraved into the metal.
My mom and dad wanted to be careful with me, so they rather dropped me off at school then let me walk to school, like I normally did before the accident happened and everything.
As I sat in the backseat, I gripped tightly onto the door handle, squeezing it constantly every time I felt a bump or a sharp turn as the car was moving.
The memories were still fresh in my head, and I couldn't help to be nervous in normal car rides now.
When we arrived to the school, my parents walked me in inside the school office, where I met my teacher that I was now in a special class for the vision impaired, separate from the other students.
Although sadness did loom over me when I heard I was the only blind kid in the whole school, I rethought about it and realized I was pretty special... in a way.
My parents hugged me goodbye, telling me to have fun in class and things like that to encourage me... but what fun could I have when I was the only one by myself in a classroom with just a teacher?
It wasn't that exciting, but at least they did encourage me and I was grateful for them.
My new teacher, who was called Miss.Park offered her arm as she guided me to the classroom. She began talking to me, telling me that her class was just like the other students but just special.
As we walked, I was silent the whole time as I listened to her speak, yet I was also looking down on the ground. Although I was blind, I wasn't completely blind. Everything was just... really blurry.
"So between the two of us, you can just call me by my first name, Yujin." She says with a giggle.
"Miss.Park... why do you like teaching blind students?"
That question caught of guard and I could tell by the way she started to chuckle nervously.
"Well, I enjoy teaching first of all but the main thing is... my mother was born blind. I guess I got the inspiration and patience to become a teacher for the visually impaired."
"Your mother was born blind? Then how..." I trailed off, seeing how I asked her that in a disrespectful way and began to hope that she wasn't those type of teachers who were easily sensitive.
She surprised me by laughing. "You wanted to ask how she met my dad? It's alright though, alot of people wanted to know too. My dad wasn't blind, but he married her because he really loved her."
