I ran out into the cold air. I couldn't do this anymore, I couldn't run, I couldn't hide from something that was so stuck in my head.

By leaving the pack I'm leaving everything I've ever known.

Josh came running out to me, but he couldn't run as fast as me. I was much stronger, but his actual speed made him much quicker.

"Cherry, Cherry...don't do this" He grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back, forcing me to look into his dark, brown eyes.

"I have to" I growled.

"You are a protector, Cherry! I've known you were a spirit since you were born. I'm sixteen, Cherry. I was there when you were adopted by your parents. I was only two, but I can still remember your tiny face. It stuck in my mind forever, and I didn't understand why. I asked my parents one day, why they were lying to everyone, especially you, by saying Alpha Peter and Luna Mary were your parents, and they explained to me that you were a spirit"

"They knew this because...?"

"I am a spirit too"

"W-what? But you're beta?"

"Yes"

We stood in the middle of the road, the rain enventually stopping, the clouds uncovering the sun.

"I have known you were my mate since I shifted. Much of your life is a mystery. There are loose ends there, that no one understands. I can't mistake your scent"

"I can't mistake yours."

"Do you know how long I've waited? I'm still waiting. If you run, I'll just be empty again"

"Well, prepare yourself. I will be empty...too. But I will just wait...until I'm older. I can't do this again. I can't"

I started running again. I shifted too, until I ran to the edge of the forest, and then something pushed me back. I tried running into that part of the forest, but I failed.

"What?"

"You can't leave the territory"

I groaned, bored.

I stood with him in silence, the electricity rolling off him rolling onto me.

"I will stay as the fourteen year old alpha. It's who I'm supposed to be. I'll get my title back, I will. They have to give it to me, don't they?"

"Yep" His tone was bored, so I got onto my tiptoes, the sun fully out of the clouds, and planted a kiss on his cheek.

"I guessed it was up to me to make the first move"

I winked, and he blushed.

I would never be so innocent with a boy again.

I ran back into the meeting hall, where all the people were engrossed in conversation.

"No. I am not running. I am the spirit protector of the land and I will not leave, I will remain alpha with my beta, Josh, and protect the land from any harm. Mark my words. Please, do not treat me as an alpha, treat me as a fourteen year old girl, that leads you in battle. I've seen the banquet set up over there" I tilted my head to the back of the room, where the table with all the food lay. "Lets eat!"
