*Mackenzie's POV*
You wouldn't have thought the radio would still work, but it did. The first time I had ever been in a car accident, it was the day of Simon and I's first date. Now, I was in the same situation. Simon and I had just left to go grocery shopping. We were just listening to the music, way too loudly, and we came to an intersection. My light was green, but someone else didn't know theirs was red. The other car hit the right side of the car, the side I was on. I remember us listening to 'Keep Up' and just having fun. (Shameless plug for Keep Up EP. It's out if you didn't know and have been living under a rock. Go buy it!) The sound of metal ripping and clashing together was too familiar. I hated the sound more than the pain. I was still conscious when the car stopped moving. I remember opening my eyes, JME was now rapping on the radio, I looked over at Simon through eye lids that were now closing. His head was bleeding and he was unconscious, but alive. I looked down at my body, trying to move my arms and legs, but just couldn't. Then, everything went dark. I couldn't see, but I could hear and feel everything. I heard as the next song came on the radio, it was 'Don't @ Me-JME' we must've had it on shuffle. I heard the sirens, but I focused on the music. It was the only thing I had to focus on besides the annoying sirens. I felt my seatbelt get lifted off of me and I felt my body being picked up. There was a horrible pain in my right leg. It might've been broken or something, but I couldn't feel anything below my knee. My left leg however, I tried to wiggle my toes and was successful. I tried to open my eyes again, but couldn't. When I was in the ambulance, I finally gave into the unconsciousness.
*Simon's POV*
My body felt light, until I realized what had happened. Then I felt like I was trapped in quicksand. I heard the steady beeping of a heart monitor and mumbling voices. This can't be happening. This is the second time Mackenzie and I have gotten into a car accident. That's just our luck, I guess. I forced my eyes opened. It took a lot, but I did it. "Simon..." Someone said to my left. I looked over and saw JJ, Josh, and Vik. I don't know who said my name, but they were all staring at me. I blinked and furrowed my eyebrows. I cleared my throat only to realize how dry it was. "M-Mackenzie...." I managed to get out. I tried to sit up, but Vik put a hand on my arm, forcing me back down. "She's okay." He said, but he didn't seem like he was too sure himself. I laid back down, looking up at the ceiling. I was worried about her. Really worried. "Is she awake?" I asked after swallowing multiple times to try and lubricate my aching throat. "N-not yet." Josh said. He leaned forward on his elbows and looked up at me. "We need to tell you something, and you might not want to hear it." JJ said. JJ could be serious when he needed to, but when he needed to, it usually wasn't too good. I attempted to sit up again but was stopped by Vik. "She broke her right leg in multiple places. It was too bad for them to fix. If, by some miracle, they did fix it, it would be paralyzed anyways..." Josh said. "So they had to amputate it." He finished. He watched my face, for a reaction. It took a minute for me to realize what exactly he was saying, but then I realized it. She only had one leg. I thought about it for a moment as we sat in silence. We could just get her a prosthetic. But I knew she would hate it. This is going to have a big effect on her life, making it a big effect on all of our lives. "I want to see her." I said, looking back at them. "She hasn't woken up yet-" Vik started. He was cut off by the door opening. We all snapped our head towards it. Cal stepped in. "She's awake." Cal said. I wanted to sit up, but knew they wouldn't let me. He walked back out quickly and I turned to the guys. "Wait here." JJ said, pointing at me. I sighed. I wanted to see her. That's the only thing I wanted to do right now. After a few minutes of silence, JJ came back with the doctor. "Ahh...Simon." The doctor said when he saw me. I tried to sit up again, and he just watched me. My whole body was sore, like I was beaten and then rolled down the stairs. I winced in pain, but eventually I was sitting up. "Can I go see her?" I asked him. He tapped his pen on his clipboard. "Not just yet. I have to ask you some questions." He said, walking towards me. JJ took his seat again and looked at the doctor. "Do you know what day it is?" He asked. I mentally sighed. "We got into the wreck on Saturday, September 2nd. I don't know how long I was asleep so, no I don't know what day it is now." I said, my voice stronger than before. He wrote down something quickly and looked back up at me. "Who exactly do you want to go see?" He asked. I rolled my eyes. "Mackenzie, my girlfriend." I told him. He nodded and wrote something else down. He put his clipboard down on the end of the bed and looked at me. "Anything hurting?" He asked, looking me up and down. "I'm just sore and my throat is dry and hurts." I said. He nodded. "No headache at all?" He asked, looking up at me. I did have a faint headache. "A little but barely." I said, bringing my hand up to my head. I felt a bandage on the right side of it. "Try to stand up and walk." He said. I nodded and threw the blanket off of me. It hurt to move, but I didn't it anyways. I had to go see Mackenzie. I swung my legs over the bed. I was wearing a hospital gown. The doctor took a few steps away from me and grabbed a water bottle out of a mini fridge in the corner of the room beside the bed. I slid off of the bed slowly, putting weight on my legs cautiously. The last wreck we were in hasn't affected me much, if at all. But this one was pretty bad. My head started hurting as I moved, but I ignored it. Soon, I was standing. I took a wobbly step forward. All eyes were on me. It wasn't that I didn't know how to walk or I couldn't, it just hurt like hell. My left knee hurt really bad as I put pressure and it was obviously swollen. "My knee hurts." I said, taking another step. "Yeah. You popped it out of place. It will hurt for a while, but will eventually stop and the swelling will go down after a few days." The doctor explained. He don't move as I walked slowly towards him. When I reached him, he handed me the water. I drank a lot of it quickly and twisted the cap back on before continuing to walk towards the door. The doctor didn't say anything as I reached for the door handle. "Follow me." I heard Josh's voice behind me. I let him in front of me and we all walked slowly to what I'm guessing was Mackenzie's room. After what felt like an eternity of walking, Josh stopped in front of a door. Vik and JJ were behind me and were silent. "Are we just going to stand here all day?" I asked and reached for the door handle. Josh stepped out of the way of the door so I could open it. When we walked in, I saw Mackenzie on the bed. She didn't even look up when the door opened. She was sat up and was staring down at her legs,,..well, leg. The room was deafeningly silent and I heard her sniffle. "Hey buddy. How you doing?" Tobi asked, standing up. "I'm fine." I said, barely glancing at him. I walked towards Mackenzie's bed. Ethan emerged in front of me. "You alright?" He asked, looking at the bandage on my head. "Yeah." I said and continued walking past him. "Give me a hug, bro." Cal said next, slinging and arm over my shoulder. I hugged him slightly and then continued walking. Mackenzie was still just staring down. She knew I was there, but just wouldn't look up. "Simon..." Harry said when I was standing beside his chair, looking at Mackenzie. I finally let my eyes look down at her leg. It was cut off just above her knee. It was wrapped in a thick bandage. I walked closer to her and put my hand on her back, rubbing it in small circles. She finally looked up and she was crying. She didn't say anything, and she just looked back down. I wanted to cry to. Just because I felt bad for her. She just lost a body part. She can't do things the same now. Her whole life is going to change. Our lives are going to change. Because when something happens to one of us, it affects all of us. That's what happens when you're a family. I took a look up at all of the guys. This is our family.
