I felt my entire body tense, almost going numb. Everybody's eyes seemed to be digging into my soul. He just had to of gone there.
"You two hooked up?" Jc nearly stuttered. I felt the tears of embarrassment fighting to stay back.
"We were kids, young and so innocent. She moved a lot, I'd visit. Best friends forever." Shane shrugged.
"I'm still lost." Connor spoke up after a prolonged silence.
"Basic run down of Sel and I, we met when we were kids. We were best of friends, and as we got older things changed, we changed. She was my first and vice versa. Then we grew apart." Shane seemed so calm about all of this.
"And you didn't think to say anything?" Jcp turned to me, obviously angry.
"Excuse me?" Is he really getting mad at me for this?
"You had sex with my bestfriend but couldn't bother to tell me?" His shoulders were shaking.
"We were 15! Jc you can't seriously be getting mad at me for this." I crossed my arms. Curse my stubborn self.
"Look bud, we're not super vocal about our friendship, I'm sure by the time she knew you knew me you guys were in too deep." Shane tried to calm a fuming Jc.
"No, no, you're right I shouldn't be mad. I just wish I didn't know that." Jc sighed, his shaking hands found my waist. I felt his breathing start to relax along my back.
"You know me man, I say the stupidest shit. I'm sorry." Shane raised his cup up, a virtual signal that alcohol had been in at least minor play.
"Look guys, now that this is settled, can we go back to turning up?" Dom whined. "O2L hit a million!"
And just like that, the celebration resumed as usual.
At least almost.
I caught Jc's short sigh. A definitely signal that something wasn't right.
"Baby?" I finally turned to face him.
"Yes?" He raised an eyebrow.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing. Why?"
"Oh don't give me that bullshit I know somethings up." I pressed.
Already defeated, Jc grabbed my hand and began pulling me towards the back of the house away from the commotion.
"Now spill." I pleaded, closing his bedroom door behind us.
"I don't know what's wrong." He huffed, plopping down on his bed, head in his hands. "I should be so happy right now, but I'm not."
"What do you mean?" I asked more out of politeness than anything. I understood what he meant.
"Can you just come hold me for a minute?" He opened his arms. Of course I couldn't resist a moment of softness.
I laid back against the headboard pulling his body into me. Jc had never been this vulnerable with me. Moments passed, our bodies just wrapped in each other; my hands running through his messy curls.
"I love this. I love you. I love having everybody here. I'm so thrilled to be reaching these milestones. Why aren't I happy?" Jc finally mumbled out.
"I'm sure it's just all overwhelming. There's a lot going on at once." I tried to reassure him.
"That's true. Maybe that's it. I just need to calm down, get away for a bit."
"You could go home, see your family, that'd be a nice get away."
"Yeah, it would be."
"Take wishbone to see your mom, I'm sure she's dying." I chuckled.
"Take you, since she barely got to know you."
"Wait what?"
"Yeah, that's a good idea." I could almost hear his grin. "I think it's time you really meet my family."
"You're serious?"
"Don't you want to? I mean you love me right? You want this forever?"
"Jc, of course I love you."
"But?"
"No but's, just a little caught off guard. I'd love to meet them, really I would."
"So it's settled, we'll go back home."
"I just need to get the time off work."
"Dang it, you're right."
"I'm sure Lulu would be okay with a few days though."
"Can you call her? I'm getting anxious now."
"Babe, calm down, I'll find a way."
"This is going to be so great." Jc immediately jumped up and ran to his closet.
"Babe?"
"Hush up I'm packing!"
