Chapter 6

Lady-In-Waiting Maddie's P.O.V.

*Three Days Later*

"It's so beautiful." I say looking out into the sunset. "This is perfect." I look over at Holden.

"That's why I brought you here." He smiles. "I thought you might want to see..." He stops talking when the trees rustle. We both look behind us, when someone jumps out of the trees.

"I've got you now!" The guy who jumped out of the tree says grabbing me. "You are as good as dead."

I wake up with a scream. I look around my room. It was only a dream. None of it happened. No date. No sunset. No killer.

Luckily, I don't think anyone heard me scream. So I walk into my bathroom. I brush my hair, put my flower crown and blue dress on, and throw on a pair of white flats. Then I walk to Bridget's room.

I wake her up and help her put her hair in a waterfall braid. Then I pick out her beautiful purple gown and help her lace it.

"I had a weird dream last night." Bridget says.

"That's weird, so did I." I say. "You explain first!"

"Okay, so I was walking around the palace with my normal guard." Bridget begins. "Then Darwin showed up..."

"Bridget?" Princess Emily says walking into the room. "Oh good, you're both here."

"What?" Bridget and I ask in unison.

"I have a surprise you." Emily smiles. "Follow me!" She turns and walks out the door. We follow her.

We walk into the yard in the back of the palace. Once we get to a clearing without trees, I see a huge trampoline.

"Is that a trampoline?" I ask excitedly.

"Yes, it is!" Emily answers with a smile.

"Thank you! I'm first!" I run off towards the trampoline.

"Race you there!" Bridget yells after me. I run as fast as I can but its not fast enough. Bridget bets me.

"You cheated!" I say out of breath.

"How?" She asks laughing.

"You just did!" I say. I lift myself on the trampoline.

I jump as high as I can. I've jumped on one before a long time ago, but it's different now. I feel like I'm flying. I jump and try a back flip. I get it the first try.

"Look at my skills!" I yell to Bridget. She laughs.

"My turn!" Bridget yells.

"No!" I yell back. As I'm doing my second back flip I see Holden out the corner of my eye. It distracts me so I land on my face. I hear Emily and Bridget laughing in the background. I look up and see Holden laughing and shaking his head. Then he turns to leave.

"Nice skills." Emily laughs. "That had to hurt."

"Just a little." I say brushing off my dress. "Bridget, you can go now."

Bridget is about to get on when a British accent from behind me yells.

"A trampoline!" Darwin yells flying over to us. "Move! It's my turn now!"

I get off as fast as I can and Darwin gets on. Darwin jumps, and jumps, and jumps. He jumps for about 15 minutes when Emily finally speaks.

"Okay Darwin, you turn is over." Emily says.

"No! I just got on!" Darwin whines.

"You've been on for 15 minutes!" Emily yells.

"I'm not moving!" Darwin sits down taking up the whole trampoline.

"Darwin, don't be like that!" Emily says rolling her eyes.

"Five more minutes." Darwin pleads.

"Fine." Emily gives in. "But only five more."

Darwin jumps way past his five minutes. We try to get him to get off but he won't. After about 30 minutes, Bridget finally gets a turn for only five minutes because Darwin gets back on.

Once Bridget gets off, her and I go back inside to cool off a little. We go into the kitchen and ask the chefs to make us something, because I am starving. Emily and the royal adviser, Christine, join us for brunch. We have French toast with bacon, eggs, fruit, and orange juice. We have the best cooks in the whole kingdom.

After brunch, Bridget and I talk about the usual stuff around the palace. Such as resent attacks, spies, and peasants. When Bridget has to go with Emily for their princess stuff, I do my normal walk around the palace. I always find something new. The palace is so huge that you can't explore the whole place in a day.

As I'm walking, I come across a unfamiliar hallway. I turn down it and see that there is only one door in the hall. I walk over to it and turn the handle. It's locked. I look left and right and don't see any people walking, so I take my bobby pin out of my hair and pick the lock. I know it's bad, but I'm curious. I hear a click from the lock, indicating that it is now unlocked.

I twist the handle and push the door open. I look to my right for a light switch and find one. I flip the switch. The room is covered with paintings. Some on the floor. Some on the walls. They are all very beautiful. To the left a painting catches my eye. I walk over to it. It's a painting of a sunset. One similar to the one I saw in my dream. I pick it up with I feel another presence in the room. I freeze at the sound of someone's footsteps.

"What are you doing in here?"
