Chapter 24

Lady-In-Waiting Maddie's P.O.V.

"Who is that?" Darwin says making me jump up.

"What?" I ask still half dizzy from breaking through a window.

"They have a dragon!" Darwin says amused. "OHMYGOSH, the dragon is pink! It's a girl dragon! Maddie, that is a girl dragon!"

"Darwin!" I yell. "You have to focus, or they will see us..."

"Come down slowly or we will shoot!" I hear a voice scream up at us.

Well, this isn't good.

Darwin lowered down without a second thought. As I screamed for him to fly away. He didn't listen.

When he landed I jumped off his back and ran. I didn't have much of a plan now that I think about it. As I'm running, my foot hits a rock and I fall face first. Massive pain shoots through my head. Then, something steps in front of me.

For a second, I think Emily is standing in front of me. But this person looks more like a man. I then realize that it's probably one of The Land of Almost Here's guards.

I stand up and try to run, but he grabs me with ease. I kick, scream, and hit, but nothing phases him. Then I grab his hand and bit as hard as I can.

Then turns towards me and pulls my mouth from his hand. Then he keeps walking, he doesn't say anything.

"Let me go now!" I demand. "Or you will be in deep with my queen."

"Be quiet." He demands.

He brings me in the palace and then into what I guess as the dungeon. One of the guards opens a door and he throws me in a small dark room.

"Let me out!" I scream. "You will regret this!"

"Maddie?" I hear a small voice say in the corner of the room.

I turn around at the sound and see a girl with a dirty torn dress and blonde hair covering her face. I don't recognize her at first. But then I do.

"Bridget?" I say unsure.

"I can't believe you're here? What are you doing here?" Bridget says brushing hair away from her face with her fingers.

I don't reply. I run across the small room and throw my arms around her. I hug her as tight as I can.

"Maddie... You are... crushing me." Bridget struggles to get out.

"Sorry." I say letting her go. "I'm just so glad you are alive."

Bridget smiles. "Same, I..."

Opening of the door interrupts Bridget. Two people step inside, both are men. I recognize one of them.

"Ryan, you traitor!" I yell throwing myself at him. I must be weak today, because he throws me off him easily. When I go in again, he slaps me across the face so hard I see stars. That gets me to stop.

"Feisty today, aren't we?" Ryan smirks.

It takes everything I have not to attack him again.

"What do you want?" Bridget says with confidence.

"We want you, that's the problem. We don't want your 'lady-in-waiting'" Ryan makes air quotes around my title. "She is useless to us. Useless to your kingdom. So there is only one reasonable option. We will just have to kill her."

"Over my dead body." Bridget says stepping forward. I move her to the side. I don't want her to get killed.

"Unfortunately, I can't let that happen." Ryan says still smirking. "I need you alive. Guard!"

The other man behind Ryan steps forward and grabs Bridget. She try's to fight, but it's no use. He's three times her size.

"Let go of me!" Bridget screams. He holds her in a position where she has no hope of escaping.

"We had a good time together Maddie," Ryan says taking out his sword. "We went to the garden and you helped me get close to Bridget. You also let me kidnap her."

"Don't listen to him, Maddie!" Bridget screams. "No one could have stopped him."

Ryan ignores Bridget. "Thank you for that by the way." He runs his fingers over the blade. "It's a shame you have to die. You are so young, but you are worthless." Ryan grabs me and holds the blade up to my neck.

"You are going to die, right here in front of your best friend." He whispers in my ear. A silent tear runs down my cheek, but I don't fight. There is no use. "I hope she will enjoy the show." I take one last look at Bridget. I can see that she is crying, but she's looking at me. She wants to be there for me even in my last moments.

"Ryan!" I hear someone yell behind us. Then a scary looking lady runs into the room. "They are here!" She says out of breath. "We are under attack."
