Wendy sighed at me.
"Keep up Bambi!" She called back.
"Hey!" I argued back, cantering after Mabel and her.
The forest was light and airy, a beautiful divinity about it. Mabel wheeled round excitedly, struggling to contain how excited she was.
I trotted behind her gyrosphere, watching her smile fade suddenly.
Her eyes were blank.
I looked at our surroundings. We had reached a small clearing with a miniscule tributary running through it. I looked back at my sister.
"Mabel?"
"KH LV ZDWFKLQJ BRX SLQHWUHH..." she murmured.
"Huh?"
This was weird. Wendy skidded to a halt behind me grinning.
"Dude! I can run so fast now! It's awesome!" She guffawed.
"Wendy...something weird is happening to Mabel..." I muttered.
"When isn't Mabel being weird?!" Wendy laughed, "Hey let's set camp up here."
I turned back to Mabel whilst Wendy proceeded to unpack the rucksack.
"Mabel, what's wrong?"
"KH LV LQ WKH PLUURUV!" She cried in panic. Her eyes were empty and emotionless.
"What language are you speaking?" I said quietly, walking up to the water's edge with a sudden craving for a drink.
"GR QRW DSSURDFK WKH ZDWHUV!" She practically screamed.
I ignored her.
I walked closer.
"KH ZLOO ILQG BRX! WXUQ DZDB!"
I took another step.
I was almost there.
"SLQHWUHH WXUQ DZDB QRZ! LW ZLOO EH WRR ODWH VRRQ!"
I reached the water's edge.
Before I could react, something launched out the bushes and seized me. I tried to scream, but chloroform was brought to my mouth, choking my throat.
The last thing I remembered was a man dressed all in black shoving into the back of a van. A gentle, eiree whispering echoed and ricocheted around my skull, a broken record, stuck on repeat.
"WKH WUHHV DUH IDOOLQJ. WKH VNB LV EXUQLQJ. WKH HQG FRPHV ZLWK WKH LJQRUDQW RQH. BRX VKRXOG KDYH OLVWHQHG. BRX SRRU, ORVW FKLOG."
