((A/N We're at the penultimate chapter guys! Prepare for the feels!))
~~Mabel~~
Candy flitted aimlessly next to me. Grenda raised her sting. Then came the tazers. I didn't even have the time to think of something before my friends dropped to the floor. Stan's roar echoed out loud as he too was tazered. Yet again, guards began to close in. There was no escaping this time. The three of us hunched up against the wall for protection.
~~Dipper~~
Pain finally ebbed from my body. "D-did it work?" I wheezed breathlessly. Will nodded with a sweet, childish grin. "You look great Pinetree!"
~~Mabel~~
Guards piled around us, forming an unbreakable wall of human flesh. Candy whimpered like puppy; her gauzy wings were hanging limply down her back. We were as good as dead. Well, until the glass panelled window above our heads burst sending shards of glass scattering across the linoleum floor tiles. Dipper sailed gracefully over my head and landed in front of me - on all four hooves.
"D-Dipper?" I spluttered in shock. The deertaur spun his torso to face me, "Hey Mabel...maybe now isn't the time for questions..." he hissed at me. Dipper wobbled forward and bucked one of the guards to the floor. I suddenly no longer cared about the situation at hand (or hoof if I was in the mood to make puns - which I most certainly am not now!). Answers were the only thing my unsatisfied brain demanded.
Completely ignoring Dipper's request, I began to ram questions down his throat. "Why are you like this Dip? I thought you wanted to be human again!"
My brother paused for a brief moment and it seemed as if the air around us slowed, almost coming to a standstill. His eyes had a deep sorrowful look swirling below the surface. "I had to save you. If it meant surrendering everything that made me human, then so be it." Dipper's voice was flat and brooding. I wanted to slap him so hard. "There would be another way!" I shrieked down his ear, forcing him to clamp his hand over it.
Time suddenly resumed around us, chaos continuing. Dipper held out his hand. "Trust me."
Rolling my eyes, I accepted his grubby mitt and he hauled me onto his back, Candy gripped onto his arm and Grenda seized his other arm. It was then I noticed the air shimmering above my head. A bluish mist condensed into my Symbol Guardian, Will. "Hey Mabel! No time to speak! I'm trying to gather as much energy as possible, as soon as possible!" the demon rambled - which was unusual considering over the short time I'd known of him, he'd just been a monumental crybaby.
Dipper winked at Will. "Whenever you're ready Will. Focus! You have to get all of us outta here!"
Will nodded in response, an element of uncertainty about it. Bringing his hand to his chest, his normal cerulean glow expanded outwards, intensifying. It enveloped us in a warm embrace as he extended his mental link beyond us, capturing everyone within its sweet hold.
Then, poof! We just disappeared! Awesome!
~~Will~~
I opened my eyes weakly. I felt drained. Around me I could hear squeals and cries of excitement and jubilation. I did it. I managed to teleport us all away. And Bill said I'd never be able to do it! Bill...he wasn't here for me to smile at and say 'I told you so'. He was gone.
My deep thought was cut short as Shooting Star - sorry, Mabel (force of habit!) flung her arms around me excitedly. "Will you did it! We're all safe!"
All I could muster was a weak smile. "W-where did w-we end up?" I stammered. Keahi's friendly grin entered my field of vision. "A few miles south of Gravity Falls, but it's within walking distance." she ruffled my hair. "I understand it was hard for you, after all, you're the youngest so you've hardly had any experience. But to do your first mass teleport over this many miles, must've seriously knocked you out!"
I nodded again with a grin. "I'm just gonna catch some 'zs'..."
I lapsed into crystal form and began resting.
~~Ford~~
Everyone was free. But now we had the mile-long hike back to the Mystery Shack. Fun! (Heh, could I be anymore sarcastic if I tried?!) Well, Mabel scooped up Will's exhausted crystalline form and we set off.
"Hey Great Uncle Ford!" Dipper panted as he caught up to me.
"Dipper? I thought they...oh, never mind. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm as right as rain....well besides the weird achy feeling in my legs but I'm sure it'll pass."
He stopped to allow everyone to traipse on ahead into the thick covering of trees - which, may I add, served as a convenient and excellent cover to hide a gang of rag tag monsters and a sleepy human. Although no one seemed inclined to discuss the events of the day, instead wishing to remain silent.
Dipper placed a hand on my sweater. "Ford, I wanna ask, what will we do about...y'know telling my mom and dad and....Mabel? She'll have to go home soon and I can't show up looking like this...in fact, mom and dad can't even know what I am now..." he sighed sadly.
I gave my nephew a reassuring pat on the back. "I know it's a hard choice to make, but we'll just have to break the news to her gently. Unfortunately, as much as she is fun to have around, we can't keep her here. Not knowing what the rest of the town has become yet and the unpredictability of our own mutations, puts her in grave danger. And as for your parents, I'm sure i can spin them a yarn of sorts about a scholarship or apprenticeship."
"Yeah I guess so...but couldn't you just mutate Mabel's body again and say we both stayed?" My nephew chimed.
"Sorry Dipper, again , I cannot risk the unpredictability of the experiment." It almost broke me watching the last glimmer of hope drain from my nephew's saddened eyes. "But look on the bright side," I added in a feeble attempt to cheer him up, "you still have five more days with her! C'mon let's get back to the Shack." And with that I put my arm round his shoulders and we caught up with the main group, sharing in their solemn silence.
Quietly, if I listened hard, I could occasionally hear the gentle sobs of a heartbroken boy.
