CHAPTER 3 - The Return
It was about 5:00 PM, Trip took a shower, shaved his beard, freshened up and put on his uniform. He looked at himself in the mirror while brushing his teeth and found out that he had missed wearing his uniform.
After brushing his teeth, he put on his shoes and his cologne then grabbed hold of his mini black Tumi luggage. Then he put on his Hublot watch, and grabbed his passport and other essentials and went out. He locked the doors and then descended to the ground floor where a town car was waiting for him. As he goes inside, he puts on his hat and the town car quickly goes to JFK Airport.
As he entered, he signed in with the woman behind a desk that was like a receptionist and got clearance from the doctors and was quickly sent to his crew.
As he entered the plane, the flight attendants and his co-captain, Martin were all clapping and greeted him with warm welcomes.
"Welcome back, Trip!" Martin said and hugged him. "I'll see you in the cockpit." He said and then left to go check on the controls. "It's so good to see you!" Elaine Woodruff, his good friend and purser said and kissed him on the cheek. "Welcome back, Cap!" Calvin Newton, one of the flight attendants said and hugged him. "I'm so glad your back!" Tracy Wharton greeted with a hug, also a flight attendant. Lastly, Phoebe Davenport, another flight attendant, hugged him and smiled, "On behalf of the crew, we send our condolences and welcome you back." She said.
Trip mustered up a smile and faced all of them, "Thank you all for welcoming me back, it's great to see you guys. I'm so happy to fly with all of you again. And all I ask from everyone is that you'll give me some time to adjust before I can be myself again. So let's get this plane in the skies." He said and he goes to the cockpit.
"Inspiring speech, man." Martin said as he checks the controls. "Shut up, Martin and just check if the gas is full." Trip said with a little laugh. Then he sees a photo of him, Megan, Martin and Jess (Martin's girlfriend) just above Martin's control yoke. Martin sees him and looks at him, "Do you want me to take it down?" He asked. Trip was silent for a while and stared at it, "Uhm no it's fine." He said and then went back to preparing the plane.
A while later, the people started to board the plane and Trip and Martin were almost done preparing. "Setting the course for Paris..." Martin trailed off. "Please get our clearance." Trip said while warming up the engines. "New York clearance, Delta 400 ready to copy..." Martin went on. Trip stood up and went to go to the bathroom to pee.
After thirty minutes everyone was in their seats, Trip and Martin get their clearance, the flight attendants demonstrate the safety procedures if ever the plane crashes on land or water, and they hit the runway.
"How's the weather today in Paris?" Trip asked with a laugh. "Peachy!" Martin joked. "Clear skies and sunshine, my fiend." He added. Trip smiles and picks up the dispatch radio and announces, "Cabin crew prepare for take off." He said. Then the plane charges and then slowly goes forward and then takes off.
After ascending into normal altitude Trip announces, "Good evening, ladies and gentleman this is Captain Trip McAllister on behalf of the cabin crew we'd like to welcome you onboard this flight to Paris. Flight duration is around seven hours and we are expecting a fairly smooth flight today. Once again we thank you for choosing to fly with us today and we hope you enjoy your flight." Martin looks at Trip and smiles, "Man, I've missed hearing you say that." He said and Trip smiles and they both fixate their eyes on the runway.
A few hours later, Trip and Martin chat while the plane was on autopilot and Elaine served them their dinners.
"So what did Elaine give you?" Martin asked. "Mashed potatoes and steak. You?" Trip replied. "Lasagna." Martin answered. "Wanna have some of mine?" He asked. "No, I'm fine." Marry replied.
