CHAPTER 12 - The Epiphany
January 21, 2011
"Man, Paris was so fun huh? I can't believe it's been a few weeks since the New Year started." Martin opened the topic. "Yeah." Trip said with a laugh. "So what happened between you and Amelia? Are you gonna ask her out?" Martin said coyly. Trip rolls his eyes and smiled, "We're just friends, Martin." He replied. "But you two seemed pretty close in Paris." Martin teased. Trip shakes his head, "Nothing happened." He replied.
Then Phoebe went in the cockpit, "Dimming cabin lights in twenty." She informed. But before Phoebe left, Martin asked, "Hey Phoebe, so what do you think of Amelia?" Phoebe looked at Trip who was shaking his head and rubbing his temples. "Uhm, she's alright I guess? Why do you ask?" She asked. "Oh no reason, just remembered our New Years Eve party back in Paris, right Trip?" Martin said with a laugh. Phoebe smiled, "Yeah, you two seem pretty close." She said and looked at Trip.
"Oh god no. It's nothing like that. We're just friends." Trip said. Martin kept on teasing Trip while Trip rubbed his temples and continued to do some stuff. "Anyways, see you in a few, the passengers are calling." Phoebe said and then left the cockpit.
"I don't get it, why do you think that I like her?" Trip asked. "We just danced, talked and watched the fireworks!" He said. "I don't know, you two look so good together. Can't you see that there are sparks flying between you two?" Martin said righteously. "Sparks? No such thing!" Trip defended himself.
"Why are you denying it?" Martin asked. "Why are you pushing it?!" Trip kind of lashed out.
Martin was taken aback and didn't want to continue the conversation any longer. Trip kinda felt guilty for lashing out at Martin, but sometimes he just has to know his boundaries, y'know.
So they were headed back to New York from London. And the whole flight, Martin and Trip didn't talk at all, they only talked when they needed to which was about the controls, contact and reports.
When they landed, Trip quickly signed out and went straight to the flower shop and bought flowers for none other than... Megan Miller.
As he arrived at the cemetery he quickly walked towards where Megan was buried. He put his hand over her gravestone and then put the flowers on the ground.
"I can't believe it's been a year since you left." He said and put his hands in his pockets. "So much has happened to me this past year and I'm sorry if I haven't been visiting as much as before." He added.
"The thing is, I sorta like this girl, her name is Amelia and I think you would've liked her. I never expected it to happen and I feel like I've been cheating on you even if I'm not." He said.
He sat down now and got a little teary-eyed, "People kept telling me that it was time, and that you would've wanted me to move on and you would've wanted me to be happy with someone else. Even my mom told me, I was the one for you, but you weren't the one for me. But the problem was, I had this idea that I didn't wanna move on, I didn't wanna be happy with someone else because I was already so happy with you. I don't wanna forget you, I don't wanna forget everything we did and had together. But this girl, she helped me get through my lows, she wanted to know the real me." He confessed and a tear fell.
"Is it wrong that I like someone else?" He asked.
"Meg, she just makes me a little bit happier, she makes me smile more, she makes me more open to the fact that there is still so much to live for." He said.
"But I'm conflicted because you still do hold a large piece of my heart and I will love you forever... But Amelia, she's, she's trying to make me whole again and quite frankly, I'm scared because I don't know what to do." He poured out his heart.
