Ten Years Later

What would life be if I was older?

I'd probably be taller and smarter

I wish I knew myself ten years later

Stuck in the present

Pending on the future

Did I find adventure?

It seems impossible

Taking caution down this unknown path

Hoping it would lead to somewhere good

What did I sign myself up for?

Not like those fortunate souls

Who dream out loud

I can't see mine anymore

My dream is unconscious

Dead, but not quite

Will I settle for second best?

Will I be happy?

It seems incapable

Handing out my heart like a flyer

Hoping not to be crumbled and tossed away

Will I ever find love?

Who would love me?

It seems insolvable

Am I heading for a cliff?

My future self beams down

she says softly,

"hush my child,

It will get better

But be prepared for rejections and heartbreaks,

All the things to make you stronger,

I promise."
