"Alright Emma, this is going to be a little cold."
They were in a room with lots of different medical instruments. Emma's mother was up by her head, and holding her hand. The doctor squeezed a cold jelly-like substance on her stomach, and Emma flinched as it was cold. The doctor, Dr. Alison Pierce, then took at small handheld device that looked similar to a hammer. She moved it around on Emma's abdomen, and stared at the monitor.
It took her a minute or two before she saw anything. Dr. Pierce pointed to the monitor.
"Do you see this little peanut shaped thing? That's the baby." She moved the device around some more, and something caught her eye. "And this is the second one."
Emma's head jerked up, and she stared at the doctor. "The second one?"
"Yes." She pointed back to the monitor. "One, tw-"
"I can count, thank you very much!" Emma snapped at the doctor. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it."
"I understand, it's a very stressful thing, twins I mean."
"Emma," Mary-Margaret said sternly. "Look at me, you can do this. I believe in you. You can do this."
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but do you want pictures?" Dr. Pierce asked.
"Yes." Mary-Margaret said instantly, and excitedly.
"No, yes." Emma said, conflicted.
Dr. Pierce printed it, "Did you want another copy?"
Emma nodded. And she printed another. She handed the photos to Emma, showed her where the things to clean up were, and left.
"Emma, I'll be outside." Mary-Margaret told her.
Emma spent a long time looking at the photos. This was scary she
thought, no this was terrifying. She grabbed the towel and and wiped off the last of the jelly stuff, she then got wet, and cleaned the sticky residue off of her abdomen as well. She got dressed, and left the room.
Her mother, true to her word, was standing in the hallway. They walked back up front, where Addison was waiting for them.
She smiled. "All done?" She asked.
Emma nodded and sat in the chair. They walked back to her room.
