Chapter Sixteen | Traveling to Ymmot - Part 1

Miri galloped as far as she could. Annabeth loved the feeling of the wind on her face on the sun dancing in the shadows.

The two pounded through streams and anything in their way. Annabeth forgot to duck while they were running through the woods and her head met a fallen log.

                              ••*••*••*••

The forest began to thin into a meadow; a meadow that was stained with blood. The trees leaves were tainted red. Even the grass and the flowers were red of varying hues.

Annabeth got up.

She wore a blood stained dress that was probably white before. Arrows littered the meadow, and she found several arrows on her body. The strange thing was she couldn't feel a single one.

Carefully, she tried to pull one out of her dress to no avail.

Red clouds billowed over high. She gazed up and almost panicked.

The rain began to fall, splashing in the already bloody pools. And the rain wasn't any normal rain, it wasn't acid rain, nor an animal rain, but blood rain.

Two people appeared in the centre. A tall, kingly male and a shorter, queenly woman. She recognised them as the King and Queen of the Empire. She charged at them, screaming at the top of her lungs. "Your supposed to be bloody dead!"

They didn't make any movement. Annabeth rushed at them, stabbing each one with the arrow she had pulled out of her dress. The blood ran out as a strange pinkish colour.

She gasped. They were already dead, so how could you kill them again?

A sword, would do it nicely, she thought. She wouldn't want to disobey the Lord of the Elves or the leader of the Rebels.

Something shining was laying on the ground. She picked up the curved sword delicately. A quick swipe at either of them would do.

She sliced through the King, straight down the middle. As for the Queen, Annabeth chopped her ugly head off.

                              ••*••*••*••

Gasping, Annabeth woke up drenched in sweat. Miri neighed softly, trying to comfort her.

"Sorry, girl. Just a bad dream." Annabeth said as she stroked the horses' nose.

"You know I can speak, right Annabeth?" Miri said. The horse stared into her eyes.

"What? Wh-what?" She gasped scooting backwards as fast as she could.

"I won't hurt you," Miri neighed. She took a step forward.

"You can speak! That's not real! This isn't real." Annabeth grabbed her head. "I'm going insane. I knew I should've gone with Jason. I'm so stupid! I'm so stupid," she sobbed.

Miri trotted around the tree. Gleefully, she neighed, "oh, Annabeth. You can be so naïve sometimes. You're a petty little girl aren't you? I would think you were." She chuckled away.

Annabeth laid against the grass, trying to calm her beating heart. The soft grass caressed her hands as she twisted, searching for a comfortable spot to sleep.

Moments later, sleep overtook her in a calming rush.

                               ••*••*••*••

A bright, and shiny dawn brought Annabeth to her senses. She stretched and gave a loud yawn. Her head throbbed with pain. Carefully, she got up and stumbled to the stream she napped next to. She cupped her hands and drank deeply. The cold water soothed her head ache quickly. It also gave her the ability to think clearly. Rising up again, she took in her surroundings.

She stood in the midst of a forest. The creek ran on her left and the tree she slumbered under was behind her. Sunlight sifted through the leaves and branches, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.

Annabeth sighed, knowing it was probably true.

A pinch wouldn't hurt in a dream, right? She thought.

Scorning herself mentally, Annabeth pinched her arm. She inhaled a sharp intake of air, feeling the burning pain on her forearm.

"That hurt!" She cried. "That really hurt!" A burning rage tinged her sight, turning everything red.

She ran into the creek, bolting upstream. She fought against the current, anger pulsating through her veins. In her mad rush, Annabeth felt herself getting weaker with each lunge.

She fell back, onto the surface of a boulder. Her vision blacked out as more nightmares invaded.

                         ••*••*••*••*••

Annabeth opened her eyes. Star's littered the sky as the moon shone brightly above, giving her all the light she would ever need.

She felt something heavy and sturdy in her hands. The smooth wood of the crossbow felt good after holding the rugged Elven bows for the past year.

She took a step forward, her feet making no sound. In the moonlight, Annabeth inspected her current whereabouts.

The room, as it seemed from the tense and quiet atmosphere, was richly decorated. Rich tapestries of varying colours, hung on the plain white marble walls. The black marbled floors were covered in Oriental rugs from Turkei, the country northern Anatalia.

She waltzed over to a window, looking up at the real stars. The moon shone brilliantly down against the silent city, the inhabitants most likely asleep after a long, hard day.

A lone dog howled into the night.

Annabeth smiled at the sound that erupted.

She tiptoed further, her mission suddenly rushing back to her.

She was supposed to kill the Lord and Lady of the Artlanian village in the mountainous region near to the ocean.

She held her crossbow tightly, in fear of meeting any grumpy guards. Her golden daggers were attached to her hips, ready to be used. Annabeth smirked at the thought of seeing the two people before their deaths.

"Annabeth, stop thinking like a ruthless murderer. You're only doing this because you are helping the Cobalt Rebellion. And you know very well why you choose this life. You did it to get away from your father, even though you know it would pain him," she talked to herself. The very first sign for going insane, but she didn't have Jason this time to help cope with the weird feeling in her stomach.

Forgetting what just occurred, Annabeth pounded, quietly mind you, through separate rooms, just to find the Lord and Lady's room. One last wooden door was bolted shut.

She heaved and broke the door, sending the splinters to the ground. Annabeth looked up and saw the two sleeping forms jolt in their slumber.

A/N-

This chapter will have a Part Two!

And I just gave my very first cliff hanger. Or at least, my first physically aware cliffhanger.

I know I shouldn't have left you guys hanging, but this chapter was getting to long.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this Inception/The Artist based chapter. The only reasoned I based it off of Inception was because last night I watched The Artist. It was a great movie. Makes me want to watch Charlie Chaplin films. Darn.

Anywho, this is getting to be a long Author's note and I know you guys want to sleep after this. Okay, so maybe you don't want to sleep, per say, after all the gory parts but hey, that's why its PG-13 after all.

Love you guys,
