I quickly make up my mind as I run out of the room, and head towards the doors.
I look back to see if my mother is coming but she is standing at the top of the staircase watching me.
"Run Scarlette, I won't be fast enough!" She yells.
I nod and run out the doors and find Crescent. We both start to run out of the castle, through the woods, and find the cave from which we entered from. We go through the cave, into the waterfall and see the hill, but with no door.
Crescent quickly does her little pattern and the doors appears. I run through, out of the woods as fast as I can.
I start to to feel strange after leaving that door. I feel myself weaken with every step I take, but remind myself I'm doing this for my mother. We reach my old house and I burst in. I see that everything is as neat as I saw it before. I go up the stairs and turn to my father's room. I hesitate for a second, before I open the door.
I look inside expecting to see him dead in the ground, or with the gun pointed to his head, but the bedroom is empty.
I go inside and look around. I strain my ears to listen for any noises, but all is silent.
I slowly leave the room with Crescent still by my side, and I look around the entire house. We find nothing, and I start to assume that he did already commit suicide, and the ambulance took his body away.
But then there must've been blood or some sort of evidence right? Or maybe he did something else? All these terrifying questions swirl around in my head, making me dizzy. I go outside and sit down on the porch, with Crescent lying down beside me, and I think.
How is this possible?
Shouldn't he be committing, or trying to commit suicide right now? Was my mother lying to me? But why would she lie to me? Maybe this is all a set up of some sort? I start to get really confused, and I close my eyes and try to relax.
An idea pops into my mind.
The woods.
Maybe he's in the woods?
I slowly get up, and scratch Crescent's head and walk towards the woods. I wonder if my powers work in this world? I try to shoot some ice on a neighbour's mailbox, but nothing happens. I try and feel angry, and try again with the same mailbox, and nothing happens.
So, my powers don't work in the mortal world...
That's gonna be a huge disadvantage. What if I'm attacked or something?
I'm 5'4 and 110lbs, I don't think I really have a chance if I'm attacked by a 6'2, 220lb man. Or anything bigger than me really.
I look down at Crescent and see that she is alert, with her ears high. I start to realize how much I've grown to love her over these past few days. She's given me what my father never gave me, and what mother couldn't give me.
I stop, and Crescent stops with me. I bend down to her height, and I look into her eyes.
"No matter what, we will always be best friends right?"
She replies with what I assume is a wolf smile, and a lick on my face.
I smile to myself and realise that we are at the edge of the woods. I walk in and realize we'd never be able to find him with both of us looking together.
"Crescent, you go left towards the caves, and I'll go right, towards the lake, okay?" I tell her.
She does a wolf nod and sprints off into the direction I told her. I turn around to start walking.
All of a sudden, a hand clasps over my mouth, and the last thing I hear before I fall into darkness is "Welcome home Scarlette."
