After our breakfast, Phil and I walked around town for a little while, checking out all the little shops. Our hands were connected, swaying back and forth at our sides as we walked.

"We should get back to my place soon, it's getting quite cold." I said. Phil nods.

"When we get back, can you make us some hot chocolate?" Phil asked happily. I giggled at his playful attitude and agreed.

Something was different when we got back to my place. Not only was my car in the driveway, but my moms was there as well.

"Who's that?" Phil ask, looking towards the foreign vehicle.

"My moms home," I say quietly with slight shock. We walk in through the unlocked door.

"Mom?" I call out to the usually empty house.

"In here Dan!" I hear her call from the kitchen.

It's been a long time since I've heard her voice.  Phil and I walk to where the voice shouted from. She was rushing around, grabbing things and shoving them into a bag. She had her phone balanced on her shoulder and pushed against her ear. Phil looked at me then back at my mother, who has just said her goodbye to the caller and placed down the phone. She continues to rush around with us standing in the doorway.

"Mom?" I ask hoping to get her attention. She stops and looks at me smiling.

"Oh Dan, I missed you," she says happily, walking in for a hug.

"I missed you too," I tell her. She's still in her work clothes, so I assume she just got back recently. We break the hug and she takes a deep breath, still smiling. She soon notices Phil standing awkwardly, yet very cutely, in the background.

"And who is this?" She asks warmly.

"My boyfriend, Phil," I say simply. I told my parents a long time ago I was gay, so it really doesn't matter to them. She smiles and extends a hand out to Phil.

"It's very nice to meet you Phil," she says. He grabs her hand and shakes it lightly.

"It's nice to meet you too," he says politely. Mom goes back to rushing around like a maniac.

"What are you doing exactly?" I ask. She laughs and keeps packing as she explains.

"I came home and got a phone call saying I had to be at a huge conference meeting in Ontario tomorrow and one of our head offices is there, so they need me to stay for two months to sort out their department there, it isn't doing so well." She laughs some more. Phil looks at me sadly.

"You're going to be gone for two months?" I ask shocked. She nods smiling.

"And my flight is gonna leave in a few hours so I have got to go. Bye Dan, love you. Bye Phil, it was fantastic meeting you." She says before rushing out the door. I stand in shock for a few moments, trying to sort out what just happened.

I won't have a mother for two months again, and who knows where my dad is. I silently walk over to the couch with Phil following me.

"I'm sorry Dan," he says, rubbing my back lightly.

"She just left. Two months. I'm not going to see her for another two months. Do they not care about what goes on in my life? They don't know anything about me," I say slowly. It feels like my own breath is choking me. I take shuddering breaths as Phil comforts me, which results in ugly sobs.

"I miss them sometimes and they don't even care," I cry. Phil just holds my head in his lap and tries to calm me down.

"It's alright Dan, you'll see her soon," he says. I stay in Phils lap until my crying stops and I have fell into a deep sleep.

When I wake up, my house is pitch black, and Phil is gone. I get up and find my way to the light switch. I see a note folded in the coffee table.

"Dan,

Since we have school tomorrow I had to go home. I'm sorry. I know he'll be mad at me but I'll be fine, it's nothing I can't handle. I'll text you when I get home.

-Phil, <3
9:08pm"

I throw the note down and run to get my phone from my jacket pocket. It was 2am and my message box was empty. I ran out the door without a jacket or shoes and drove too phils house. He would've texted me if he was okay. He isn't okay. I know it.

I stop driving where I normally meet Phil, because as I just remembered, he's never shown me his actually house. I slam my fist into the steering wheel. He might be hurt and I can't help him. I pull out my phone and call him, tears streaming down my face. It rings once. Twice. Four times. And then I get an answer.

"Hello?" A sleepy Phil says quietly. I let out a relieved sob.

"Why didn't you text me?" I said slowly and sadly.

"Dan I'm so sorry, I got home and he was angry and some things happened and after that I just went to bed from anger. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you," he apologizes quickly. I take a breath of relief.

"It's fine. I'm just so glad you're okay," I say.

"I'm sorry Dan but I have to go my dad might hear me, I'll see you tomorrow," he says in a whisper.

"Okay, bye." I say.

"Bye," he says before hanging up. I stay on the phone until I hear the short dials indicating the call is long over.

"I love you."
