Chpt. 42 (Growing Up)

Pregnancy Tracker: Aleene is 3 months pregnant [First Trimester]:

*Same Day*

Shay was rocking Felicity in her arms, the baby fast asleep. She was looking out the window, watching a plump brown and cream colored cat nibble some plants by the four graves out back. Suddenly, it looked towards the back door that Shay couldn't see, and took off. Shay was confused until she saw Aleene walk out.

Aleene stopped by the two leftmost graves, and began to talk. She sat down and continued to talk. Shay assumed that she was talking to her parents, which would make sense as they were buried out back. 

Shay had never met Aleene's parents, but Aleene always said she would have loved them. She always said that they were amazing people that left footprints in the sand that Aleene tried to follow, but Aleene said that they both took big strides, and left big boots for Aleene to fill. But Aleene did her best. Her parents caused many children to smile, and Aleene did the same, but made her performances loved by adults as well. Her father held a presence about him that you had to respect, lest you be met with the burning golden fire he held in his eyes, despite not having the rage. And Aleene did the same, earning a mutual respect from both humans and animatronics alike. Her mother always had a temper to beware but a heart of gold that was big enough to love the world. Aleene's temper was not something to question, and her motherly nature was as sure as Shay's love for her own children. Aleene always bragged about her children in the right way. Telling others about how Alena was raising her family right or how she was so proud of Alice for taking Quill in.

Aleene had big boots to fill, and Shay thought she did a good job at filling them.

Shay raised an eyebrow when Aleene turned and began to talk to the mint patch, tears flowing. Shay figured she just couldn't look at the graves anymore, but questioned that when she saw Aleene place what looked like candy among the plants. She continued to talk to the plants as she placed more candy in the plants, and then walked inside.

"Hey Shay, watcha lookin' at?", Maggie asked, and Shay pointed out the window. "Do you know why Aleene put candy in the mint patch as she talked to it?", she asked, and Maggie flinched. "O-Oh dear... Y-You s-saw her...", Maggie drifted off as she looked out the window herself. "It's something personal for Aleene. Someone special is buried under the catnip and peppermint. Someone even more special to Aleene then our parents.", Maggie sighed, and Shay pressed for answers. "Who is?", Shay asked, and Maggie looked at her. "Aleene's dead child. She was really sickly, Aleene was kidnapped and Peppermint was created with her DNA but died when she was three months, okay? Now I really don't want to talk about it as I feel like I'm betraying Aleene, and I miss Peppy too. Don't ask Aleene about Peppermint, she'll break down.", Maggie dug her heels in, refusing to give more information. "Oh... I'm sorry, I won't ask again.", Shay apologized, and Maggie sighed.

"Sorry, that's just a rough spot for us all. Don't ever ask anyone about Peppy. EVER. I WILL KNOW. AND I WILL NOT BE HAPPY IF ALICE STORMS IN HERE ASKING QUESTIONS.", Maggie hissed, and only stopped when Shay began to quiver. "I don't want to scare you Shay, but I don't want Aleene to get hurt. I think her scars from her rough past are finally healing, and I don't want anything to slow that process. Aleene has risked her life for me and my family many times now, and not it's about time that I do that now. I don't want to get angry, but I sure as hell will.", Maggie glared. "Okay, okay! I won't! I'm not mad at you for your anger. I can tell that you're very sensitive about the subject, so no hard feelings.", Shay assured. "Cool. Hey, can you help me out? I have to watch my kids, and I said I would help watch the other kids. Usually, I have plenty of help from Lucky, Quill and Belle, but they're busy. All of our babysitters are being trained intensely at the moment.", Maggie chuckled, and Shay nodded. "Yep, lead the way.", the fox said, she placed Felicity in her crib, and Maggie lead her to Aleene's room first, where a very stressed Goldy was found trying to get Louis to stop crying.
