Chapter 8: The Sovran

Miss Bessie's POV

"What happened?" Nagising ako dahil sa boses ni Philip.

I was massaging my aching head, trying to recall what had happened and why was I lying on a comfy bed surrounded by still-to-be-known people. Para akong pinukpok ng tatlong beses sa sakit ng ulo ko.

And with only one touch on the throbbing side of my head before I flinched in pain, the terrible incident came crashing down like waves of tsunamis inside my head.

Ang mga estudyante ko!

Tatayo na sana ako pero natigilan ako at napatitig sa pagpigil sa 'kin ni Margaret. "You shouldn't move..."

Marahas kong pinalis ang kanyang mga kamay. I can't just be here while my students are in danger!

Pero hindi binitawan ni Margaret ang kamay ko and stared me down. Her eyes were serious and cold, and somehow, the uneasiness that nestled in my chest slowly left. Surprisingly, she calmed my ass down. Nang mapansin niyang hindi na ako magpupumilit umalis sa kama ay huminga siya ng malalim at umalis sa harapan ko.

Nalipat ang paningin ko sa unahan. Due to the throbbing pain that's still stabbing my head, I finally noticed my surroundings with a confused mind. I stared at all of the people inside this room one by one, and came to realise I am with the Faculty Members.

Philip is by the door. Marco is leaning beside the window, while Ruben is sitting on the windowsill. His favourite spot. Nancy sat on the end of the bed, while Margaret stood on my right. Nakaupo naman si Kathryn sa kaliwang gilid ng higaan. Naomi and Leah is standing beside Felix's bed. Frank and Robert are situated in the center of the room, sitting comfortably on the wooden sofa.

All of us are wearing our uniforms. A dark cloak covering our black tight leather shirt and military pants. The only difference is, mine is bloody and theirs are clean and neat.

"All of you are present..." puno ng galit kong wika. "Pero nung kailangan namin ng tulong, nasaan kayo? Every one of you let those Hunters die!"

Natigilan sila at saglit na napatitig sa akin. I saw Leah crossing her arms.

"Now, now Bessie, for what is your fault, do not blame others." Tumalim ang mga titig niya. "You are one of the Sovran. Newborns or not, you are the superior. Pero bakit ang bilis mong mapatumba? Perhaps, your emotions got in the way."

Hindi ko gusto ang narinig mula sa kanya. I disliked because she's right. Napaiwas ako ng tingin. Leah has seen through me. Not just her but all of them. 'Di na dapat pa ako umasta ng ganito. But I realised, up until now my emotions are still in the way.

Ngayon ko lang naalala ang aming sitwasyon nang mangyari ang trahedya.

Leah and Nancy were summoned by the Paramount Council, the Elders of the Hunters. Ruben and Philip were tasked to observe the Vonderheide Village, see if there's any rebellious movement from the Vampires. Marco and Robert asked for help from the Alphas of the Rosenstein Village. Frank, Margaret, and Kathryn visited the Hutchins Village once again trying to gain intel. All of them were busy. And my team weren't even successful in contacting them and report about our situation because of my insensitivity, the reason why most of our people died.
