"Who is that boy over there?!" I asked the sound of curiosity echoing in my voice.

"I think he's the new guy" replied my best friend Alex " the whole school has been talking about him."

And I could see why. He was tall with long strong arms yet lanky legs and knobby knees. A brown mop of hair lay on top of his head with a bit of curl in it, messy yet the good kind of messy. His eyes, even from where I was standing at my locker a good 10 feet away, popped with a color green indescribable and a look of mystery about them. He laughed and his eyes became little slivers like twinkling moons and his smile lit up his whole face, reaching from ear to ear. He wore a black hoodie with some sort of logo on it, a foreign looking backpack on his back, a pair of nice shorts and sanucks on his feet.

"Uhm hi there, my name's James. I just moved here from Ireland. I came over because I saw you kind of staring at me." he said as his smooth, subtle Irish accent poured out.

He laughed a bit and I felt my cheeks go red hot. I guess I was lost daydreaming that I had missed him walk over to me. I didn't even notice Alex leave the school as well!

"Me staring at you?! Haha no couldn't have been.. I was just looking over at the uh locker.."

Wow, what a great introduction. Could I be more awkward?

"May I ask your name, unless you'd prefer to tell the locker?" He asked wittily. His mouth turning up into a half smile, almost a smirk.

The sarcastic type, I see. But something about his playful way and that he was in fact a complete stranger intrigued me.

"It's Alice." I said.

"You look like an Alice." He said, his eyes studying my features.

I slightly turned my head away embarrassed by his stare. Nobody had ever told me I suited the name Alice. It felt weird but nice to feel like my name, like it fit me.

"Would you tell me a bit about what it's like in Ireland" I said after a few awkward seconds.

"I'd love to" he blurted out eagerly.

"But I must say, it would be a much more interesting over some ice cream" he said with cool composure.

Ice cream sounded amazing. I hadn't even realized till then that it was boiling hot outside.Man I was getting more and more oblivious by the second. It was probably only 32° but it felt like 50. June does get awfully hot around here.

The only thing about this situation that didn't make sense was why was he talking to me? Out of all the kids in or school he decides to ask me to ice cream?! That just doesn't make sense. I'm not nearly pretty enough to have caught his attention. He probably has a beautiful blonde hair, blued eyed bombshell girlfriend back in Ireland and sees me as no threat. Just some dull Canadian girl as fancied over him and his irish allure as he was expecting Canadians to be.

I smiled up at him, feeling slightly sheepish. "Ice cream sounds lovely" I replied.

"Well what are we waiting for? Lets ditch this sweaty highschool and you can show me where the best ice cream parlor is." he said as he gestured to the doors.

I grabbed my bag and started walking with him down the hallway, trying to contain the giddy feeling in my stomach. As we walked by one group of guys James waved and when I noticed who they were, bitterness struck me. I glared as we passed. Cody stood just staring back at me wtih a blank expression, waving to James when he noticed him beside me with a sudden confused look. I hoped James didn't see the tension between me and Cody and was relieved once we had passed them. When we reached the doors at the end of the hall, James held the door open for me.

"After you." he said bowing his head down like I was royalty.

I giggled. "Why thank you kind sir."

We ended up walking down to the pier where they sold my favorite ice cream and he told me wonderful stories about Ireland. Luckily for me I found out that he is single, even though I knew that it would take much more than him being single to fall someone as ordinary as me. He told me all about the move to Canada and how he technically already was graduated back in Ireland but told me he would come to prom just to see me. At the end he gallantly paid for the ice creams after I pleaded I would treat. It was strange, we talked as if we had known each other for a long time.

"That was the most fun I've had since I've got here Alice." James said as we strolled into my drive way.

"I'm glad it was with me." I playfully said back. "You're a really nice guy."

"And you seem like a perfect girl." He said pushing my auburn unruly locks out of my face.

Glancing down at the ground, I ran my fingers up my sleeve grabbing hold of my wrist, a nervous habit of mine, suddenly feeling uncomfortable with our proximity. "Oh hardly perfect, you just don't know me well enough yet" I said, letting my voice trail off.

"Well I'd like to get to know you better." He said coming closer, tilting my head back up to look into his alluring, greyish green eyes.

I smiled. "I'd like to get to know you too."

Leaning in quickly, he softly kissed my cheek. With that he turned on his heals and started down my driveway almost flying over the pavement. I simply stood in place, flushed and unable to move.

"See you tomorro' Mrs. Alice" he said looking back at me with a huge grin. His dashing irish accent prominent in his words.

I smiled and watched as he skipped down the street towards the bus stop.
