Chapter 1.
"Sasuke!" A girl with long blonde hair tied back in two pigtails wearing a long white dress cried. Her wide cerulean eyes wavered as her lover walked toward her. "What are you doing here? You know you can't be here." She said, stepping forward slightly. She stared into the eyes of the man in front of her. His raven hair framing his pale face, that glistened in the moonlight.
Sasuke reached out his hand, taking her hand in his own. He crouched on one knee, and kissed the girl's hand lightly. "I will never leave your side, no matter the danger, Naruko." Naruko frowned, feeling the emotions and hearing his thoughts. She fell to her knees, still holding on to Sasuke's hand.
"But you must! It's too dangerous here!" She cried.
"Forget it!" Sasuke snapped back, yanking Naruko arm toward him, causing her to come forward and into Sasuke's chest as he wrapped his strong arms around her slim body. "I will never betray you, Naruko." He continued, putting a hand on Naruko's whiskered cheek. Her eyes widened as they both leaned in to kiss.
'I will never hurt you, Naruko...'Suddenly an abrupt sound caused him to jolt awake from his dream. He sat up quickly, frowning find that he couldn't remember what was going on in his dream. Naruto Uzumaki, a young eighteen-year-old high school student, abandoned at an orphanage when he was just a baby, and now a senior, was looking for an apartment so that he didn't have to burden Iruka, his father-figure and the person who runs the orphanage.
He slipped on his school uniform and continued to think about his dream. He had been having those strange dreams each and every night. Ever since he had discovered his powers that he possessed, he continued to dream of himself as girl named Naruko who was a human and was in love with a demon. Naruto shook his head. His dreams were only dreams. If anything, they weren't real. He hoped.
He couldn't help but wonder who that person was that was in his dream as well. What was his name? He couldn't remember. He didn't care much for his dreams. All he cared about was his independence and the people around him. He walked toward the main room of the orphanage to speak with Iruka. He knocked on the door, waited for an answer, and then opened the door. He smiled. "Good morning, Iruka." He said.A brown haired man with a large scar on the bridge of his nose, tan skin and brown eyes, looked over his shoulder at Naruto. The man smiled brightly at the teen. "Good morning, Naruto, did you eat breakfast yet?" Naruto shook his head.
"I'm going to do that on the way to school with Gaara. He promised me ramen." Naruto grinned. Iruka gave him a look. He sighed, shaking his head.
"All right, Naruto, I heard you're planning on moving out." Iruka said. Naruto's eyes widened. His gaze softened and he averted it to the floor. He nodded his head.
"Y-Yeah, I am." Iruka sat in his desk, he smiled softly at Naruto. He encouraged the boy's independence, but there was no need to hurry when it came to finding a place to live. He knew Naruto hated being a burden, but he was never a burden to the orphanage. He wasn't a burden to Konohamaru, Udon, and Moegi. They loved him.
"There's no need to rush," Iruka replied, still smiling. "The kids love you and they want you to stay here until you've graduated. You have plenty of time until then." Naruto smiled back, nodding his head. A knock on the door caught his attention. Naruto turned around to see a red haired teen that was just a little bit taller than Naruto. He had dark rings around his deep sea-green eyes and a tattoo kanji symbol meaning "love". Naruto blinked.
"Hey Gaara, where's Temari and Kankuro?" Naruto asked. Gaara gave him a blank look before he finally spoke.
"They're already ate breakfast and are on their way to school. Come on, I promised you ramen remember?" Naruto beamed and gave Iruka a wave good-bye. Soon, they were out the door, and on the way to Ichiraku's Ramen Café. When they got there, they were greeted with a warm smile from the head server.
"Hi, Naruto, Gaara! How have you been?" She asked. "Welcome to Ichiraku's! What can I get you boys?"
"Miso please!" Naruto retorted, grinning.
"I already had breakfast, I'll just get a drink of coffee."
"Miso pork ramen and one coffee coming right up!" She grinned as she wrote down the order. Naruto blinked at Gaara, hearing the other's thoughts. He knew – because of his ability – that he could hear his thoughts through physical contact and feel the emotions. Because of that, he was able to figure out how Gaara felt about things and himself.
"Is something on your mind, Naruto?" Gaara asked. Naruto's eyes met Gaara's sea green ones. The blonde sheepishly grinned and scratched his head.
"W-Well, I've been having these strange dreams about people and demons." Naruto answered. Gaara raised an invisible brow, narrowing his green eyes, analyzing his friend. The red haired teen nodded. He muttered a thank you to the server who had given him his coffee.
"I see, is there anything else?"
Naruto shook his head. "No, nothing else Gaara. You don't have to worry about me. I'm perfectly fine."
"You need to start relying on others for help, Naru," Gaara said. "I understand you want to be independent, but..."
"Gaara, really, I'm fine. Nothing else is bothering me."
"Promise?" Gaara asked.
"Promise." Naruto affirmed as he finished his miso ramen. Once he was completely finished. Gaara called the server for the check and paid for the food. Naruto wanted to pay, but it was Gaara's offer. They left the café in a comfortable silence as they walked to school. Naruto knew that he could hear Gaara's thoughts and he had been thinking about the one thing that had been tugging at his chest.
The feelings Gaara held for him. Naruto kept his thoughts to himself, not letting Gaara any further into his heart. He couldn't place it, but, he couldn't return the feelings Gaara felt for him. Sure, they grew up together with Temari and Kankuro, but he wanted to save his heart for someone else. He didn't know why, though, it was odd. He didn't know how to tell Gaara, but he thought it'd be best to let Gaara tell him about his feelings. It was best.
"Naruto, watch out for the—" Unable to heed Gaara's warning, Naruto suddenly collided into a pole, hitting it hard. He cried out in pain, his blue orbs closing tightly, preparing himself for more pain. His eyes shot open, meeting sea green ones. Naruto then realized the position he was in. Letting out a manly squeak, Naruto averted his gaze from Gaara. "Pole." Gaara finished his warning, breathing it out softly. Naruto swallowed.
"We... We should be moving, Gaara, right? No time for lollygagging," Naruto stammered, getting off of the red head. Gaara blankly stared at the flustered blonde. He didn't mind having the other boy on top of him, but it was different for the both of them in public. The problem was, that through physical contact, Naruto was able to read his thoughts and feel his emotions.
Gaara was sure that his chances with the blonde were very slim. He was okay with that, but he was determined to tell the other boy his feelings. That he liked him. That he loved him.
