Friends are the family we choose. And I had chosen a group of people who are completely different from each other and from me. I still don't know how we became friends. We we're all between the ages of twenty-one to twenty-three.
The day it all started was when the little one had just turned twenty-one and we didn't really know how to celebrate. We were never the kind of girls that went out to bars and drank themselves to death, we were more the kind of weirdos who couldn't get enough frozen yogurt.
But that day we wanted to do something else, something different.
"Guys, we are all adults now, we should do something else." Effie suggested.
"Like what?" Alaska asked with a somewhat dry voice and not taking her eyes off her phone.
I was on Instagram when I saw a post by one of my school teachers. It was like a flyer of a new bar, and a rock band was going to be playing that night. I had seen this band before, but I never really checked them out.
"What about this?" I handed my phone to Effie.
"Okay, let's go!" She grabbed the keys and went out without saying the plan to the other girls. We went out and got in the van.
We had two vans, two cars and five motorcycles. That was the advantage of having uncles who owned a mechanical shop, we got our cars way cheaper.
We went on the black van, Effie's van. She always had me go on the front seat so I could manage the music.
We drove for 35 minutes singing Rock and Metal songs. We got there early, so we went to get something to eat. Nobody knew where we were going but Effie and me.
"Where are we going?" the birthday girl asked with fries in her mouth.
"It's a surprise." Emma said rolling her eyes. She was the curious one in the group. She always wanted to know everything and she would get mad if we kept secrets from her.
"I bet I'm going to like it." Alice said stealing more fries from Emma's box and looking at Alaska who was taking pictures of something outside the window, as usual.
"Well, it's almost time and I want front row, so we should get going." I mentioned as I was getting up from the chair.
"We're going to a concert?!" Alice asked excited.
"Damn it Helena, can't you keep your mouth shut?" Effie laughed. And we left.
The bar was mostly empty, and it was very dark, the stage was only lighted with red, dim lights. And the smoke of people's cigarettes made it hard to see clearly. But we were there for the music so it didn't really matter.
Emma dissapeared and came back with a male waitress, who had a tray full of drinks. She started passing them out to us and Alaska looked confused, which Emma fastly noticed.
"Yours is just soda, no alcohol." It was funny how she knew exactly what Alaska's face meant. The place started filling up. People of all ages, even old ladies. We were standing there all the way to the front. After a while, the band members started coming out to get their instruments ready.
The drummer was a skinny, good looking guy with blonde hair and very blue eyes. The one with the bass was tall and had long, dark brown, curly hair. The lead singer had his white headphones on and was absorbed in his music, he was the tallest one, and he had turquoise eyes. And then I saw the guitarist, he was so serious, his eyes looked brown but when he looked my way I catched a hint of green in them.
And then the music started, and it all started.
