What Happened When We Met

Changes Can Be Good

Two weeks had passed. Effie got home and she seemed better. She smiled more often and talked more about her thoughts and feelings. But we knew her a bit too well, we all knew that she was still her, with her secrets to herself.
The doctors didn't prescribe meds, they told me to check on her and if any of the symptoms came back, to take her immediately to the hospital to get her started on another treatment.
Alaska, who was also really close to Effie, well I guess we were all close to her, she was like the glue that sticked us together, but Alaska had been sad, feeling guilt because she never noticed what was going on with Effie, she was also feeling sad because Seattle was leaving.
"We are going to break up, long distance relationships don't work" Alaska said worried while we drove to pick up the guys, to take them to the airport.
"You'll be okay" Alice patted Alaska's arm.
"Well you say that cause Ronnie decided to turn down the offer and stay here with you" Alaska's tone came out a bit aggressive. Alice narrowed her eyes and we all just stayed silent for the rest of the ride.
When we got to the Brown's house, we saw suitcases outside. Jimmy walked out with another one in his hands. He didn't seem happy. Effie looked at me, like saying, Look at his face, he's so sad.
We parked outside and when he saw us, he smiled. I was going to miss him, a lot.
"Need help?" Emma asked him.
"We got it Em" he nodded.
We went inside and Roger was on the couch with his head in his hands. Emma rolled her eyes and sat down in front of him.
"Effie!" We heard Timmy call from the basement.
"I'll be back" she told us and went down the stairs.
Jimmy walked to his room and I went after him to see if I could help with anything.
He picked up a box and saw me standing at the door. He put it back down and told me to come in. I walked towards him and I just stared at him. He sighed.
"Can you keep these?" he handed me his car keys. I nodded and grabbed them. I felt the urge to hug him.
"Will you be okay?" I asked him.
"I think so, will you?" He asked and I just nodded. Today's been the nodding day. I took a step closer to him and hugged him. I buried my face on his chest.
"You're so freaking tall" I said laughing. He chuckled and rested his chin on the top of my head.
"I'll give you the house keys too, if you guys can come and check once in a while" he gave me that contagious smile.
"I will" I laughed and he hugged me tighter.
"Okay, let's get going" he let go and picked up the box again.
Jimmy and Seattle started loading the van with their things. Alaska wasn't talking at all, I was sure she was thinking about breaking up with Seattle. Timmy and Effie came up the stairs holding hands. I was asking myself if they decided to get together. It looked like she read my mind cause she looked at me,shook her head, and rolled her eyes.
It was a silent drive to the airport. Seattle and Alaska were arguing for insignificant things, but they wouldn't let go of each others hands. Alice, Roger, and Emma were playing some game on their phones. Timmy and Effie were talking about us going to Canada for vacations. Jimmy was driving and I was sitting right by him, driving in silence had become a habit for us.
We got to the airport and Timmy got a guy to help them with their things. We stayed outside the van for a while talking and sometimes just looking at each other awkwardly.
"Okay, it's almost time so I better get going with this thing" Roger cleared his throat.
He sat down by Emma and grabbed her hand.
"I know you never want to get married, and neither do I," he rolled his eyes, "but I don't know why it makes me feel better if we leave it this way" he took out a small box. He opened it and inside was a ring.
"Do you want to be my fiancé?" He chuckled. Emma's face was so red.
"But you just said we don't want to get married?" Emma's voice came out shaky.
"We're not getting married, we're just getting engaged" he laughed nervously.
"Okay, I do want to be your fiancé" she giggled. We all laughed and clapped.
We walked inside and Seattle had been hugging Alaska all the time.
This is the last boarding call for flight 428 to Canada, all remaining passengers please report to gate 16.
"Well it's time" Timmy sighed. He hugged Effie.
Everyone started saying their goodbyes, oh how I hated it. I really loved the guys, we had the best times together, but it was their opportunity to do something more, and that made me happy, but at the same time, I felt angry and sad, because they had the chance to move on, and I felt like I was stuck in the same place.
Jimmy walked towards me and gave me a hug. I could hear his heart beating fast. I hugged him tighter, trying to memorize the sound of his heart and the way his arms felt around me.
"I'm afraid I might forget you" I felt the need to explain to him the reason I didn't want to let go.
"I will see you again Lena, I won't give you the chance to forget me" he chuckled and winked at me.
"Come on Jimmy," Seattle said with his eyes red, "we have to rip off the band aid"
"I don't understand when you say things like that" Roger rolled his eyes and laughed.
"Okay, you go before Helena gets all sad and teary" Effie said patting Jimmy's back.
"We didn't destroy it, and I'm not ready to let go" Jimmy whispered in my ear. Then he planted a kiss on my lips. I was totally not expecting it. Everyone around us stayed silent.
"Ready?" Timmy asked still holding Effie's hand.
"Okay" Jimmy let go and walked away. And I stayed there, petrified, while the guy I liked went away.
