I stopped the car, "Well I'll be damned." I got out and smiled, then I received strong hugs from every single one of my friends.
After a while of talking and explaining I ate quickly. I found them on the highway, Tye and Adam were repeating the car process from yesterday. They said that they were looking for me, but then thought I was dead.
I joined them again and left the Mustang, it was already destroyed anyway. I was really gonna miss that horse.
I gave Tyler the shotgun, he was really happy. I preferred the pistol so it was a win/win.
I noticed that Adam was still driving so I headed over to the front. I whispered to him, "Hey Adam, have you been the only one driving?" He looked tired, then he nodded and said, "I haven't slept ever since we left the house." Those words shocked me, I told him that he should take a nap and that I could drive. He agreed and I took over the wheel. The seat was warm but big and the feeling of driving this machine felt great.
I took off, this vehicle was big, I felt taller. I heard my friends talking and laughing behind me but I never really gave much attention to what they were saying. I just kept on driving, it seems as if now I got better at it. Driving the Mustang gave me plenty of practice.
I saw a big sign that said "Welcome to Nevada." Jen and Tye saw it too because I heard them cheering.
A few minutes later I saw that the gas tank was almost empty, crap. "Uh, guys? We have a problem." "What is it?" Jenny asked. I told them about the low fuel but they all smiled. Then Jen said, "Don't worry, we have plenty of gas in the trunk." I was impressed, "Wow, you guys really took care of things when I was gone." They smiled and nodded, "Yup."
Hours past and miles were driven, I was getting tired. I told myself that if Adam can do it, then I can. That gave me a thought. I peeked behind me and saw Adam still asleep, then I looked back at the road. Wow, Adam's been sleeping for a long time, I suggested a nap not a coma. Now that I think of it, Adam always did love sleep. I remember one time when I slept over at his house, he slept for more than half a day. I just sat on the sofa playing videogames since I was bored. When he woke up he was amazed that I had a higher level than him in Call of Duty. Somehow I was always good at videogames, even ones I've never played.
My vision got blurry so I blinked repeatedly. It worked so I kept driving, I thought of how long this has happened. Maybe 3 or 4 days since the outbreak.
I saw blurriness again and was driving half-asleep. I thought I was going to crash but then Jen woke me up, "Hey, what's up?" She sat next to me in the passenger seat. I said, "Nothing, just driving." I guess my voice sounded different so she said, "Hey you've been driving for a while, do you want to take a rest and let me drive?" That sounded nice but I didn't want to. I didn't want to give up on something so easy. In this world you can't give up on anything anymore. You must adapt to survive.
I said, "No I'm alright," but I think my sleepy voice made her just stay longer. She put her hand on my shoulder and said, "Look John, by what you told us, you almost died like 3 times when you were alone. You haven't been getting proper rest in a while, and I can tell you're going to give out and fall asleep by the look on your face." I didn't know how to respond to that. Jen spoke again, "Just let me drive okay? I'm full of energy right now, I slept a lot already." I tiredly sighed and said, "Okay...thanks."
I parked the car on the side of the road and switched with Jenny. Then I went to the back of the truck to sleep. It was kind of cramped but why wouldn't it be? There's 7 of us in here.
I found a spot on the left side of the truck. I sat there, Rachael was next to me and next to her was Sabrina. They were both sleeping, but then I noticed that everyone was asleep, except Jenny. Jen was driving, she was a good girl. She's very helpful now that I think of it. I guess day by day I'm getting to know my friends more and more.
I closed my eyes to sleep, it wouldn't be hard to. I was dead-tired and it was night, I fell asleep almost instantly.
I woke up about 3 hours later, the sky was still pitch-black. Jenny was still driving and everyone was still asleep. I was going to get up but I noticed that Rachael was hugging me. She was asleep with her arms around me and her head on my shoulder. I smiled, but I didn't want to wake her up so I just stayed there. I couldn't exactly move my arms because she was holding them down with her hug. I looked down and saw her cute face and beautiful hair, she looked adorable. Her arms felt nice around me.
After a few minutes I closed my eyes and fell asleep again. I felt the vibration of the back tires spinning, it kind of soothed me.
I woke up later at dawn. Adam was driving now and Tyler, Sabrina, and Rachael were awake. Jenny and Nancy were still sleeping. I yawned and stretched, Rachael smiled at me and said, "Good morning, did you sleep good?" I remembered last night, "Yes actually, best sleep I've had in a while. What about you?" She smiled big and said, "That's good, and yes I slept well, thanks."
Tyler kind of interrupted, "Dude, this gun is awesome!" he had it in his hands. Then Nancy woke up, "Can you shut up? I'm trying to sleep," and went back to sleep. I responded to Tye, "That's great man, just don't blast anyone's head off okay? Only the zombies." "Yeah, I know," he smiled and cleaned it with an old rag. Then Sabrina came and kissed him in the lips, "I love it when you carry a gun, you look so manly." Wow, I missed a lot while I was gone. I remembered not too long ago when she kicked him in the balls, and now they're in love.
Well I'm happy for them, all we faced since the outbreak was chaos and terror. It's about time we saw a positive side to all this.
We heard big thumps, but it was just Adam running over some zombies. I checked the back window and saw them. The tires ripped them to shreds. I saw some more of them, and they were running! They were chasing us but luckily Adam was going around 70 miles per hour, plus they didn't run too fast.
I told them about it and then a group conversation came up. "Yeah, I've noticed that too, they're moving a lot faster than before." Each and every one of my friends took turns talking about it. Based on most of the zombie videogames we've played such as Left 4 Dead and Dead Island, we're afraid that the zombies could be evolving. First they would walk, then run, then get smarter. After that, they'd maybe have abilities that we don't. But this is kind of unrealistic, real zombies can't have special abilities...right?
