Nick and Nate Diaz are UFC fighters and each is a force to be reckoned with. Together though, they're a straight-up powerhouse. I look up to them. They are my heroes not only for their skillsets or their abilities in the octagon but because they don't let any match come between them. They're the perfect siblings and I don't have one anymore except Ace who could be mistaken for my brother. We have the same jet black hair and emerald green eyes.
I'm just a girl from a small town. And by small I mean one road, no light, have to drive 5 miles to the nearest gas station, very little entertainment small. Of course all I need is something to hit or someone to spar with to be happy. I fight Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but only underground that way my parents won't find out. My mother wants me to be a pretty princess pageant prep homecoming queen type thing. Dad wants me to sell my motorcycle and my 'Vette. Like that would happen. And be a "regular" girl. Well here that either means a slut or taken. I don't have time to deal with drama of guys except for my best friend. He is the best sparring partner a person could ask for. He's not bad looking either. I just don't see where I have time for any kind of committed relationship at all. I think I should keep focusing on my fighting and one of these days it's gonna get me and Ace out of this hell. Take us straight to the top, or at least to UFC Unleashed on FOX.
Monday night is fight night. Tuesday night is lock the door and sneak out to go fight night. Wednesday is sparring all day no matter how hot it is outside day. Thursday is pre-psych ritual day. Friday is make your knuckles bleed from hitting things day. Saturday last chance day, if you're gonna be any better this is it day. Sunday is rest all day. Pin your shins, make sure you have everything ready and avoid mom's pleading to compete in the pageant. Get your bag ready and hide it in the bushes. Check your clock every 15 minutes and your phone every ten for news on the progress of the octagon. Monday morning get up at 3 and call Ace. Strict diets are the worst so now is the time to complain to your best friend about being hungry. Power bar for breakfast. Sneak out before farmer man next door wakes up and brings over fresh eggs. He'll tell on you. I promise.
I get to the gym and my stomach growls at me. "Did you eat?" Ace asks seriously. "I ate the power bar. The freaking thing is the size of a cereal bar. It's not filling. Not at all. But I have to work before I get food. My dog got more to eat than I have already. How do they do this?" "They're probably not as hard on themselves as you are there sweetheart." My head snapped toward him at that. "Not as hard on themselves? Ace. They get up and do the same thing I'm doing. I got my routine from talking to them online. They want me to go to Nashville and meet them before my match today. I'm only fighting Colby Cardenas so I'm not really in any danger. Unless he goes for cheap shots again." "Woah! Hold up! They want you to go meet them?" "Yeah. I told them I was bringing you with me. They said that was a great idea. We're getting passes to be in the back room with them before each fight and they're gonna come watch me fight tonight. I have to go as soon as I weigh in." He nodded in shock that I had talked to our heroes. Nick and Nate Diaz and they were going to see us fight tonight. I had almost passed out on video-chat when Nate told me their idea. Nick had gone to talk to their manager about an arrangement for me a room at their hotel for as long as they were in town, Ace could stay too but the invite was mostly mine so we'd be sharing a room which was fine with me. I had smiled brightly and sweetly when he told me I was invited there with them and that they wanted to spend time with me.
We had talked a lot in the last few years as I got in contact with them about their weekly routine when I started losing my raw talent edge and needed something new. Kash and Kristyn who owned the gym thought it would be a good idea for me to talk to a professional since this was basically my therapy from all the pent up anger about my childhood. Getting slapped across the face when I objected to competing in the pageant or dance recital. Getting tossed downstairs when I was sick because I couldn't compete. I thought it would be fun to let these two guys who I had never met before in on my entire life and now talking to them is an every day thing. They've talked to Ace before too and they seem to like him because he's always came to my rescue even when it wasn't necessary. He almost got arrested for fighting my father and the charges got dropped because evidence was stacked against my parents that would force them to put me in a group home or something.
