song for the chapter - The secret love song by Little Mix
(Paul's POV)
'Son you have to tell me everything so I can help you.' With a tabloid on my hand, I asked the Irish boy, who's standing right in front of me.
'There's nothing to tell.' He was barely audible, but was able to keep his words flowing.
Niall has changed a lot after the horrible breakup. It hurts my heart too. Whenever I see one of my sons' going through a hard time I feel the same, because we have grown closer like father and sons. All the boys won't get to discuss their typical teenage stuff with their parents. But I was here from the beginning to help them feel the love a mother and a father could give to them. That's the reason for their openness with me regarding any difficulty.
Seeing him growing old and strong makes me happy, but every minute he becomes more agitated and a frustrated child. Before leaving for the song writing session I asked Niall to meet me at my room in private, so I could talk to him. I cannot leave him miserable and confused about his decisions.
When I saw the morning news on my way back from breakfast, I couldn't believe my own eyes. The whole front page was covered with a picture of Niall, walking out from the front door of this very hotel with another woman. We have given them the freedom to associate their friends and to have girlfriends, because it's their right. But I will never approve of this combination. The older woman standing right next to Niall was none other than Katherine. What was she doing late night? She gave enough trouble to the whole group, especially Niall. So as their guardian I must not let the same thing repeat again. Niall won't survive this time for sure.
He was all dressed to go out with his band mates, but he was standing near the window facing his back to me with his hands tangled behind his back. I couldn't resist this silence from him. He needs to start talking, not bottle up his feelings.
'Niall, why was she with you? Are you back together? You know what she could do to you again, right?' I am sincerely worried about this boy.
With a long sigh, he walked back to me and thoughtfully sat on the chair behind my desk. He rested his head on his hand, which was on the arm of the chair.
'Uncle Paul.' He was so cautious about his words, but collected.
'I don't know what it is anymore. Life is full of surprises. There's one thing you really need for yourself, but this other thing keeps on emerging and distracts you from having a little hope.'
Finally, he stepped forward to grab the tabloid on my desk and stared at the picture for a long time. Hurt has swallowed his pale face, but it slowly started to change. And he spoke. 'This is my past, Uncle Paul. This is not what I want any more. Yeah. Once upon a time she was everything to me, but not anymore. She proved me I was wrong on my judgments.'
There was an awkward pause. He took his time and continued, 'It is complicated right now. But I think I have found my cure.'
Before ending his final words he threw the magazine into the waste bin with a final glance.
'Life is what complicated, Niall. But if you can focus on what you really need and what's right for you, then the life can reward with things that you've never dreamt of.' I said with a smile.
He's really changing and I couldn't be happier. The reason for this change is still unknown, but I'm sure somebody had magically entered into his heart. An angle who's gradually softening the hard core that nobody was able to repair for a hell of a long time.
