Malphas couldn't hear anything. His heart thumped wildly against his ribcage, warning him. Using too much of his newfound demonic prowess was taking out a part of his soul – and he couldn't afford that. This soul was given by Gabriel, he couldn't let it become a part of hell, too. Her soul . . . soul-cleaved . . . was a part of him.
He knew something was wrong, he just couldn't pinpoint what. Lucifer emanated echoes of air, screeching sounds clawing at the suspended time. It almost sucked him in, a whirlpool of flooded memories begging him to stop and listen. Lucifer enjoyed this kind of game. And the King of Hell was too calm. Too eerily calm. He wasn't even surprised that Malphas was able to penetrate through his barrier. Why? Did Lucifer think so highly of Malphas?
Maybe so.
Malphas clenched his fists, forcing the shadows to swirl and entangle around the sun on his other arm. He wanted to save Gabriel, but how? All his whole life, he thought he loved Lilith, only to find out it was simply pure lust, because only Lilith had been there for him. And then Gabriel came . . . and she was everything he wasn't. She filled in the gaps he had, completely in sync with the blanked spaces. He'd do everything to save her.
"Save her?" Lucifer whispered, his voice mocking.
Malphas refused to talk to him. He almost forgot how Lucifer's mind was almost the same as him. After all, the King of Hell did everything to numb his emotions, just so he wouldn't feel that a part of him was missing – Gabriel.
"Do you know what my last name is?"
They weren't ripping each other's throats . . yet. He certainly had no time for chitchat, but Lucifer was in the mood for talking, so he let him. He'd have time to think about how to trap him.
Lucifer's right eye – the Reflector of Memories – flickered at him, showing him what the ending looked like; Gabriel's wings wounded, ripped apart, blood spilling out and Malphas, holding her in his arms, bleeding, too. Both of them had been destroyed, and then he saw them kiss as they lose their last breaths in each other's lips.
"That won't happen," Malphas growled out, whipping the shadow over Lucifer's head. It did hit him. But not quite. "That hell of an eye of yours has its own loopholes. The future is always changing."
Lucifer stood up, brushing his hands on the soft material of his cloak. He looked just like any typical villains, except this one was much, much more. One look at him and you could tell how many things he had destroyed through his bare hands. He was all the archangels and demons at once, and no one could stop him.
"Yes, the future is always changing, but your future's been decided a very long time ago. My right eye may have modifications, but it doesn't stop. You know it, don't you? What's bound to happen will happen," Lucifer said calmly, the kind of calm that could terrorize your thoughts.
