Pain.
There was nothing greater than pain. It weakens and slowly kills you. It wakes up your inner monsters, no matter how evil or good you are. Each and every one of us had experienced pain before. . . but nothing like this.
Nothing can compare to this pain he was suffering.
It was the worst kind of pain.
It was excruciatingly painful. It seemed as if your head’s being forced into halves and your parts of the body splinter into tiny pieces. And your soul. . . it was as if death was giving you a special treatment, everything was just too painful to explain. No words can describe pain. Only feel.
All Malphas could do was scream in agony, his soul battered, probably because he had been screaming for what felt like years as he stared at the archangel in front of him. He didn’t have enough time to think about revenge because all he could feel was pain itself.
Malphas was being tortured.
He tried to reach his back, see if what the archangel said was true. As he did, he dawned on him that two, massive wings were about to sprout and there was nothing that he could do about it.
Wings were pain.
That was why Malphas never dreamt of having them. Wings symbolized the fallen, the angels, the demons, the archangels, the curses, but. . . nothing even symbolized Malphas. He was greater than a demon. He was never a fallen nor was he a changeling. He was evil himself.
To think that he had let his guard down was humiliating. At that moment, all he wanted to do was die. He wanted to stop the mixing burning and cooling sensation, the ache, and the pain everywhere. It was surrounding him, like the greatest nightmare of his life. He couldn’t do anything but writhe in agony as the ache expanded ten times more.
Malphas reached for his wings as it grew bigger and he tried to rip them off him but to no avail. Even if he had managed to pluck out a few dark feathers, it was still there – attached to his back.
Seconds turned into minutes and minutes turned into hours until Malphas no longer knew how long he was suffering from the cursed black wings. Through his hazy vision, he could barely make out of the archangel's distinct features, but he was sure that she was staring at him, and it irritated him.
How could she overpower him? How could she still use her divinity when she had almost depleted her entire angelic aura? Was it simply her will?
No. Her anger and grieve triggered it, Malphas concluded.
"What have you done?" he screamed, his arms reaching his back.
Nothing else could be done. The wings had completed its growth and transformation, and then Malphas was sucked into a vorpex as to what looked like an illusion.
In there, he dropped down on his knees, wings spread wide apart. His body was paralyzed but he could still see.
The entire realm was filled with bloodshot red, as if someone had been brutally murdered. Gabriella was nowhere to be seen. The crescent red moon hung above, symbolizing that something bad was about to happen. Then there was a vast burning forest, though the fire didn't reach him. The unknown place confused Malphas. He had no idea what he was doing there, he thinks it was one of the archangel's powers.
