Maddie's POV

Today was going to be one of the most important days of my life. The second annual Trumperican Trumping Ceremony. Yes, I know it sounds weird! Renaming almost everything in the country after himself was just one of the insane things President Trump had done since he took office in 2016.

Oops, did I just call His Excellency insane? The Trumpists are gonna come arrest me now!

Hehehe, at least I didn't say it aloud. Even the all powerful Trumpists couldn't read our thoughts. Yet.

"Maddie! You don't want to be late for the Ceremony!" My mom yelled from downstairs. It was unbelievable how fast she and most former Americans had adjusted to life in Trumperica. It had only been two years since our world was turned upside down, and she was acting like she had been born Trumperican.

"Coming!" I replied, putting on the beautiful red tulle dress I had bought for the occasion and running down the stairs.

I stuffed a bowl of cornflakes into my mouth as fast as I possibly could before slipping on my polished high heels and walking into the garage, where my dad waited for me in the car.

"Today's the big day, Maddie! Who knows, maybe you'll get into the Trumpist Circle!" He said enthusiastically.

"No, ew!" I scrunched up my face in disgust.

"Imagine being a Trumpist, an elite..." he trailed off dreamily. "This pesky Cardex wouldn't always follow you around, you'd have unlimited money and power..."

"Hubert called Cardex pesky. Cardex would like to remind Hubert that Cardex is in place for his own good. Noted," my dad's Cardex said, and he sighed sharply.

"No matter how privileged I'd be if I got my school district's Trumpist spot, I'd have to support the likes of Trump."

"Ssh!" My dad hissed. "If one of the cameras or your Cardex caught that, you'd go to the Lowly Circle for sure!"

"I'd rather be in the Lowly Circle than become a spoiled Trumpist!"

"Fine, let's compromise," my dad sighed. "We'll hope that you can stay in the Moderate Circle, okay?"

"Okay," I nodded. Moderate was my parents' circle, that I defaulted to the day of the Trumping, when Trump took over back in 2016. Today, I would be placed in one of the three circles based on my grades, citizenship, and loyalty to President Trump, the supreme ruler of Trumperica. I would like to stay in Moderate, it would be a decent life, away from Trump.

As we arrived at Fairview High School, we were greeted by a blaring announcement.

"ALL SOPHOMORES, PLEASE REPORT TO THE AUDITORIUM FOR YOUR TRUMPING CEREMONY! ALL SOPHOMORES REPORT TO THE TRUMPING CEREMONY!"

"Good luck!" My dad smiled, squeezing my hand one last time before I walked into the auditorium, where my friends Julie Zedd, Rylee Stone, April Spring and Emma Coleman waited for me in the seats.

"Hey Maddie!" Rylee smiled. "Are you ready?"

"How can you possibly be ready for the day a crazy dictator decides your fate?" I raised an eyebrow and Rylee laughed.

"Please stand for the pledges." Oh, the announcements were starting. I stood up and put my hand over my heart, before joining my classmates in monotonously reciting my oath to Trumperica.

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Ununited States of Trumperica, and to the dictatorship for which it stands, one nation, under Trump, with liberty and justice for the Trumpists!"
