Sarin waited by the conference room door, her nerves running ramped. How she'd let Kita talk her into this she'd never know. Actually, that wasn't fair to Kita. A part of her had wanted it. She'd wanted a chance to lead to prove that she was as good as or better than Kita. She had hadn't hidden the fact from Kita, and Kita had been supportive. That's what scared her and made her nervous. She'd expected a fight or at least to be told she was wrong. Now she wondered if this was some underhanded move on Kita's part to undermine her. If it was, it was working.
Deep down she doubted it, Kita maybe vengeful and manipulative, but not with her or at least not anymore. Kita probably knew that she would be better than her and had a way of knowing when to step aside and let more qualified people do things. She hoped the show in the medical ward didn't mean Kita thought everyone was better at everything she did. The one thing Kita could do that no one else could come close to doing as well was inspiring people to do what she wanted. That wasn't something that was learned, that was a gift. And right now she wished she had it.
Amber called the room to attention. Masking her face in a professional manner she strode into the room relying on the two things, one she always had, her looks and the confidence that came with them, and the prowess that came with being an intelligent and fearless killer. Behind her Sarge, Norway, and Prometheus followed helping her feel not so alone.
She ignored the questioning looks that asked why she was coming in ahead of Kita. When she stopped at the head of the table the looks changed to confusion. When Snowy and Amber had reached their places she motioned for everyone to be seated, then she motioned for Paladin to sit beside her.
Hiding a deep breath, she began, "for those that do not know I've been named Deputy Commandant until Kita recovers from her trauma. We do not know how long this will take. Early prognosis is a minimum of a month. Until then I will be filling in for her and performing her duties. Unfortunately with things they way they are we cannot sit by and just wait for her to recover. We are going to move forward on her long term objectives in reorganizing the Legion. Any questions, besides the obvious one?"
Forrester nodded, "the obvious one being I wasn't aware of the position of Deputy Commandant nor that you were in the Legion."
Sarin sighed knowing this was coming, but she still found it annoying. She called up the manual for the rank of Legion Commandant.
"Chapter fourteen, section five, paragraph thirty five, bullet C, numeral IV, part a, states that a Deputy Commandant maybe be appointed by the Commandant in times of crisis or other warranted period deemed necessary by the Commandant in which the Commandant requires assistance which cannot be provided by a Commander. The Deputy Commandant must be a citizen of the UEE in good standing, completed basic peacekeeping training and administrative training, and be at least fifty years of age.
