*FLASHBACK*
*JAKE'S MUMS POV*
Today we're going to the beach, Jake and Paige are going to love it. Me, Jake and Paige are in our seats ready to go. They don't even know where we're going. I've even set Jake up for some more surfing lessons, because i know he enjoys them, just like Paige did. Paige has been learning to surf since she was 10, and Jake has been surfing since he was 9. He was adamant to start with his sister. Paige is 14 next week, and we hardly go to the beach, so I thought why not go this weekend, since i'm working next week.
It takes us about 2 hours to get there, and by this point Paige and Jake had already figured out where we were. We park in the small car park, grab our stuff and climb out. Jake and Paige head to the toilets to get changed, and i walk to the small beach. After about 5 minutes, they both come running down, their clothes in their arms. They drop them next to me and start applying sun cream.
"Can we go in the sea now?" Jake smiles, impatiently. The surfing lesson was in an hour, when the waves were bigger.
"Sure, but stay together. Got it?" I stare at them as they nod their heads," Go on then."
They swim, pretty much, for the entire hour until the lesson. I shout them over and they both run over. Paige runs past me, to the car i assume. She returns quickly with the boards and hands one to Jake. She runs for the waves and leaps in. She's always been a natural at surfing.
The lifeguard teaches Jake for an hour, before he too runs into the waves. They surf alongside for ages. I hear the ice-cream van heading towards us and look up from my book to it. Jake must've too, because he runs towards me.
"Oi, i thought i told you to stay with Paige. Where is she?" I ask staring at him. He stands panting from the run, and grins.
"She doesn't want anything. She wants to stay in the sea. Shall i go get her?" I shake my head at him and head towards the truck. He follows because he knows I'll let him have whatever he wants. As we're standing in the line for the van, it starts raining. The wind also picks up. Great, a storm. I hear a whistle behind us.
PAIGE!
I turn and see them. The waves are massive. Not tsunami big, but big. I also see Paige surfing on them. She needs to leave the sea. I don't think she can hear the lifeguard, because she doesn't stop. Then with one big wave, she falls. I run to the beach and the lifeguard jumps in.
"PAIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" I yell hopelessly. I feel warmth at my side. I turn to look at Jake who's just staring at the sea. His face pale.
"Paige...swim up," He whispers, but i hear him. I call 999 and pull Jake close. The lifeguard gets out of the sea. He looks...Exhausted. He locks eyes with and shakes his head. I cry and cry, until there's no-more tears left.
The authorities arrive slightly after. They tell me that they can't help until the wind goes down. It settles 2 hours later. I'm sitting in the car, Jake asleep on my lap. I see something in the distance. I slowly climb out of the car, careful not to wake Jake. I walk closer until i can make out the shape. It's far away, but it's definitely clear what it is.
Paige's board.
*JAKE'S POV*
Today the 'funeral'. It's not really though because we never found her body. They're just saying she's dead because they're too lazy to look. She's alive, she'll come back. She promised me she'd never leave. She...she...can't be gone. She can't
